This castle was built in the early XVII century on three islets on the Castle Lake as the residence for King Christian of Denmark - Norway. It also includes a large Baroque style formal garden. In 1882, it became open to the public as the Danish Museum of National History that houses the largest collection of portrait paintings in the country.
