Problems with Luminar 4

Since my latest round of updates to PS and Windows I am no longer able to use Luminar 4 as a filter in PS, Luminar tries to launch but the file isn’t handed off. Stand alone Luminar works as usual. So far, since my last updates, I have discovered this problem only with Luminar. After several emails with Skylum support they tell me the problem is with my Windows administrator name, I had a space between my first and last name. So I changed my name by removing the space...still doesn’t work as a filter...”because the program is still trying to launch using the same path it was installed under.” They advise me to create an additional Windows user account and launch Luminar within it. I asked if it wouldn’t be simpler to uninstall then reinstall Luminar into my current Windows user account, and what happens to my other software access? I’m told reinstalling Luminar won’t help and as for my other software, it would have to be installed in the new user account as well. The thought of reinventing the wheel just to access a filter blows my mind...there has got to be a better way! I would love to hear your thoughts and advice.

I’ve had issues with some software similar too what your going through, here’s what I did I got ahold of Revo Uninstaller and did a complete uninstall there are 4 levels of removing left overs from your computer, just doing a regular uninstall doesn’t do it I, do the no.4 uninstall it cleans all traces in the registry. So when you reinstall it’s just like the first time installing the software. By the way Revo has free edition and a premium edition.

I had to uninstall luminar 4 as I was corrupting my Picasa phot library it was continually leaving picture codes like 4E [2],[Ac3and so forth 30- 50 each has to manually be removed. In essence it was downloading its library to mine. I chose My Pictures to view in Luminar and yet it appeared in Picasa a these two letter codes. I had seen a response from Luminar to someone who had the same problem which made no sense.
I uninstalled Luminar 4. Please note this did not occur with Luminar 3.

Thanks for your reply Barry. I’ve used Luminar since it’s original release, updating to version 3 and now 4. During this time I’ve also updated Windows and PS countless times without issue until now. I think you may be onto something about the latest library module causing the problem. I liked the sky replacement AI output...but the “package” ain’t worth the aggravation. I haven’t fully decided what I’ll do with Luminar...probably go back to 3 as a filter and do sky replacements in PS or Landscape Pro. Skylum support left me very disappointed with their “as to my other software” attitude. Luminar 4 must be a higher priority for them than it is for me. Thanks again for responding.

Thanks for your reply Doc, I’m glad it’s working as it should for you. My original update to 4 went fine and worked well for three or four weeks until I updated Windows and PS within a few days of each other. The next time I tried to open Luminar as a PS filter was when the problem showed itself. I hope you continue to have a good experience using the software and thanks again for your reply.

My pleasure. May I suggest you reload Luminar 4 again. As I recall it must be done after PS is installed. If PS is updated, Luminar 4 likely will fail as a filter. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Do you have any security enabled? I suggest uninstalling, then reinstalling without your security enabled. I had issues also, but rectified it in this manner after consulting with Luminar personnel.

Wow! I asked Skylum support about uninstall/reinstall but they told me no, that I needed to create a new Windows account and reinstall all my software in that user file. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw as to which tech responds to your last question...either way my experience is Skylum support is lame. Thanks for responding photonut54

I think there is an intrinsic flaw in Luminar 4, it doesn't want to play with other programs so it corrupts them. Why should Luminar 3 work and not Luminar 4.

You won’t get an argument from me about that
