I really like the S&W 9mm Shield. Small but not too small and single stack mag makes it easier to conceal. My wife has the 380 EZ Shield. Easier to rack the slide and has a grip safety as well as a manual safety

I have that same handgun with Eagle Grips and a Bobbed Hammer....I shoot and carry 38 Special....the Bobbed Hammer still lets me shoot single action but does not snag when drawn from a pocket...I mostly carry an old Smith and Wesson 638 Bodyguard 38 Special snub nose Revolver in my right front pocket...comes out fast and slick as a whistle,,,when I holster carry it is with a 9mm Glock 26 or one of my single stack small 9mm pistols...If you have a range that allows it, or are on private ground with a good backstop, practice drawing your handgun and shooting dead center mass at speed...Try it with an unloaded gun first until You get used to it and can do it safely...We are not talking target shooting or bullseye shooting but combat shooting get rounds on target at speed try to get them in a dinner plate grouping or smaller...

Nice buy! You can hit with it, too.

Regarding muzzle flash--I like it! My favorite photo

I think you are probably right but with the right bullet, doubt you really need to go to the +P. I have a very nice little S&W model 36 I think it's called the "chief's special" that's a 5 shot and will handle +P if needed. They are no longer made but are readily available used. Also the Colt "detective special" is a very nice piece. My wife carries one from Colt's custom shop that is double action only - they are 6 shot and also handle +P.

Last January at the Shot Show Federal announced a new .380 acp cartridge "the premium .380 acp hydra-shok deep" with a 99 grain bullet that would be on the shelves in the spring. The round will consistently pass all the FBI's penetration standards which puts it in the same class as 9mm. When it's really too hot out, I carry a Sig p238 in a pocket holster. The Sig's slide is very easy to rack and might be easy enough for you with the arthritis. Only problem with this is that this ammunition is still not available. I just sent an email to Federal inquiring when they expected them to be on the shelves.

Good luck with your search and have a nice 4th of July.

Thank you for your answer. Will look into the Colt.

Smith & Wesson has the smoothest double action pull. I don't see anything Colt has except aesthetics.

If right handed, raise your thumb slightly and your grouping will migrate to the right... and may be all the correction necessary

I second that! But I have the Performance Center model. I think that the trigger was much improved on this version and the fiber optic sights are a benefit to my aging eyes. It took much trial and error for me to find the right.

I bought a Ruger .357 2 1/4” barrel model SP101 yesterday. Stopped at the range on the way home and shot about 100 rounds. It took that many to get somewhat used to the trigger and sights. Here are the results from the last 25 rounds at 10 yards. Shooting the .38 the recoil is comfortable. Shooting the .357 is a stinger. About 10 rounds was enough.

The first four groupings were with .38 Fiocche 158 gr fmj 730 fps
The last grouping (5) was with .357 Fiocchi 158 gr jhp 1220 fps

I have a holster from a 9mm I used to own and fits ok, conceals nicely. It is very comfortable to carry compared to the Colt 45 5" I have been using.

A nice early birthday gift for myself.

If you think the 357 is a "stinger", try my .445 supermag .354 Cassul or S&W .50.

Love my Glock 9mm. Have used it for more than 20 years. Am very happy to still be able to carry it, but now looking for something a little lighter. With today's turbulence who knows when one might need it.

Take a look at this: https://www.colt.com/api.php?action=specsheet&product_id=276970&title=Mustang%20Pocketlite

12.6 Oz and not a lot larger than a .25 auto or .32, but with the right ammo, the .380 will do the job, and it’s small enough for a pocket or a purse. Not inexpensive at $700 MSRP though.

I worked at a county detention center from 2001 till December 2018. Please be careful how use / store your weapon. An estimated 287,400 prisoners had possessed a firearm during their offense. Among these, more than half (56%) had either stolen it (6%), found it at the scene of the crime (7%), or obtained it off the street or from the underground market (43%). Most of the remainder (25%) had obtained it from a family member or friend, or as a gift.

That is also a fine little pistol.
I looked at some of the .32 offerings including Berettas but the round left me doubting efficacy. For me the 380 is a good balance between size and power.

I find it interesting to know how many UHH members have an interest in guns. I am likewise attracted to well functioning firearms and cameras, part of the GAS syndrome I guess. In addition, I suspect that a number of UHH members who also own guns are moderate to liberal philosophically, as I am. I have often said to friends who react negatively to the mere mention of guns, that a neighborhood where many have concealed carry permits will be safer than a neighborhood with none because we know those with permits have had their backgrounds carefully checked (at least here in Oregon). I prefer outdoor photography and often carry a handgun. My favorite is a 4”
1911 in .45.
