I have two holster-type from Think Tank. They're perfect for a single camera. At the other extreme, I have a Lowepro backpack that holds a lot, but provides easy access. Then I have an assortment of bags for storing and carrying.

Maybe you should also ask about what kinds of straps we have. :D

I have an Ape Case, I chose it for a couple of reasons. #1 because it has a yellow lining, easier to find the black everything I have and the dividers can easily moved to be set up to match your equipment, #2 because it does not look like a camera bag and you don't see many of them. It does come in 3 sizes so almost everyone could find the size they need, #3 it is sturdy and well padded so I have no qualms about putting my equipment in the bag. My 5 yr old great grandson sat on it one day, I must admit I panicked at the thought, but happily it didn't even phase the top. The padding is really good. Shoulder strap is very comfy and has a handle on top as well. You just have to remember the bigger the bag, the heavier it can get when full :-).

Let's see...
Billingham (early)
Domke,
Kata,
LowePro,
MRock,
Pelikan,
Photoflex (4 X 5),
Zero Halliburton,
and a closet full of gun cases customized to carry camera gear.
(This does not count the numerous cheap cases I've acquired over the years, including Quantaray, or the dozen or so backpacks I've reconfigured and/or customized to hold camera gear or a Crumpler I bought for someone in my past!)

Each of us has reasons for buying different pieces of equipment that fits their needs. My first concern about my camera equipment is safety. I chose the Pelican System because for me it is the safest case one can buy. It is also waterproof and mine are rated as carry -on when traveling. The one problem I can see why one would be reluctant to purchase one is #1 price and #2 it is a little hefty. The case has a luggage type handle and is on wheels. It is also guaranteed for life, I believe ,against any damage and immediate replacement. Check out the Pelican site and see who uses their products and why .

For mw, camera bags have been almost jackets - different one for differnt use. Took a look one day and - "WOW - What have I got here?" Camera club had a gear swap/buy/sell night - took all but one I wanted to keep, sold three and made $100; stil have several left. I've gone into a "make-do" rather than "buy-new" phase.

I to am starting to look for a new bag, has anyone used the Lowepro fastpack backpack? I've watched a couple of videos and it looks like you just have to swing it around to the front because of the side entry to get to your equipment

Great post to follow. I have a Lowepro 350 backpack, it has a side entry for a large laptop as well. I am finding it great for carrying a lot of gear, but a pain having to wriggle out of it and put it down to retrieve my camera from it's side opening pocket. I am thinking serously about the Lowepro slingshot 220 model, on the hopes that I can get at the camera without putting the bag on the ground. In a crowded venue I feel awkward doing that. Does anyone have experience in this?

I thought the purpose of the fastpack was the side entry. I have a Tamrac now that I love except for, as you stated, I have to put it down to get things out of it.

I have had so many different bags over the years I couldn't possibly recount them. Even had one custom made to my own design (my cousin made canvas bags/purses). Each new bag I bought was to satisfy a specific purpose and each served that purpose well until circumstances changed---different cameras, different lenses, different tasks, different accessories, etc. I now have a London Fog for my SX40 and a Lowepro Slingpack (large) for my D300 and accessories. Love 'em both. I guess what I am leading into is that you need to assess just what all you want to do with your camera and what all you want to carry, and then search out the specific bag that meets those needs. It is not an easy process, but it will be worth the time you spend getting the right one.

I have one, too, but I've never used the quick retrieval feature. I use it mainly to transport a lot of gear. I suppose with practice I could do what they do in the video and spin it around to get to the camera.

I am using a Kata bag and I'm happy with it. My camera store has a giant selection to browse through. I can't imagine buying a bag withough looking and trying it out! I noticed a new trend with bags having brighter colors inside. Mine is yellow. I can't tell you how much better this is!!!! Every bag I own from now on will be yellow inside! You can actually SEE everything!!! Good Luck...Robert Here's the link: http://www.kata-bags.us/

Great review of the exact bag I have. I heard the reviewer mention swinging it round so I just tried it. Unslinging the right arm let me slide the bag around and I can get at the camera. I am out for a day trip t omorrow so I will try it. I might live with it yet, it sure is a quality product. I have had a small Tamrac bag for years, they also make a great product.

I think a better question might be, "What camera bag have you found to be a waste of money?"
