Wow! I just picked up my Z6, brought into Melville on Thursday, July 25th, to replace the broken off AF-ON button. I thought it couldn't get better than this. But it does.
The service team did a complete camera checkup to ensure all meets factory specifications. Then they checked all software, communication; and did a general cleaning and cleaned the image sensor.
And....they replaced the Function Button, Card Cover, Rubber Grip, and Rewind Side Rubber. I didn't even know these needed to be replaced!
Thanks to Maria, Bella, Rachael, and Chuck-- and my unknown technician.
FYI.....Your camera settings will be set back to Factory Default..so make sure you save your settings before you send in your camera!!
Update.....
So, I loaded my saved settings .bin file. Wasn't sure if it actually loaded since there is no confirmation. I figured out that if there is a file in the root directly, it will load.
Next, the firmware does not yet allow you to save your User Settings (U1,U2,U3). So, it appears that the User Settings are only saved 'in-camera'; and once you reset to factory defaults, you lose them. They will all need to be input again.
Let's hope that future Nikon firmware updates will allow us to save our user settings to the same .bin file.
Wonder if you could save the settings then put a different card in the camera for the repair then reinsert the card once you get it back and have it load your old settings.
Actually you don't send the camera in with a card or battery. Anyway, makes no difference. The User settings are not saved to the loadable .bin file.
They formatted the system to give you the cleanest camera operating system. Even cameras can get bugs! The flattened system gives them a baseline to make sure the camera functions to within factory specifications.
Wholeheartedly agree. Not complaining. Just letting everyone know what to expect.
