I personally don’t have the background or cannot rely on expert advice to begin to know how to manage the balance. I certainly recognize the need for a balance, and wish the leaders of this country had found it. They did not.
I know the willy-nilly free for all with few limited restrictions and a President who downplayed the entire problem, from the start, giving stupid people false security; did not work.
The less vulnerable should have been returned to work, with tracing and tracking, in a unified, national regulated effort to minimize the risk, but still restart slowly and methodically. No doubt opening the bars, parties, and P**********l inspired no-worry (we are doing “tremendous”) approach has clearly resulted in a current disaster. At the risk of further damage to the economy, the shutdown should have been given more time.
The fact that is wasn’t; and the ongoing steadfast mentality of a President at Mt. Rushmore tonight who proclaims that the v***s has been controlled will, no doubt, result in further death and suffering that should have been avoided.

Finally a question somebody can answer.

The original idea was that a state would be opened slowly on a downslope of new infections and hospitalizations, keeping an eye on the statistics, and keeping the infections list small enough to be traced, with patients being isolated.

For example, our Governor announced a five step process. Steps 1-3 went forward without problems. They worked hard on Cass County, with its pork-packing plant, and that county had few more infections, going from 4th to 6th on the overall list of counties. All through this time total new infections and hospital admissions continued to fall .... but those measurements went up after step 4. Originally, the idea was to reach Step 5 on July 4th with fireworks, but on July 1st the Governor announced a “Step 4.5” that would still allow for fireworks. Elkhart County - the county just East of us - has gone way up in infections, so they will stay in “Step 4” for another two weeks, and in another two weeks they will re-evaluate everything.

So, did your country Canada re-open against a stream of increasing infections??

Mr. Trump should have truly closed our borders to all countries at that same moment. Anyone let back in the country should have been put in quarantine for two weeks - yes a few people would have missed some work, but it would not have been as disruptive as what did happen.

If you were watching Biden you would know that he spouted a lot of platitudes and any real action in his plan is to do exactly as Trump has done. Infections are still passed one individual to another. No politician has the ability to ensure there is no contact. The v***s is being controlled much like a forest fire. With a forest fire you slow it’s advance and failing rain, you try to turn it back on itself using various tools at your disposal. It is still going to break through in various spots so you then tackle those areas. You don’t just walk in and extinguish the whole fire in one swoop. You have still controlled the fire.

Once again an intelligent and thought provoking post, I am guessing positive V***s Test would indicate V***s and Antibodies in the Blood indicating an infected person, where a positive Antibody Test would indicate Antibodies but no V***s in the Blood indicating a Recovered Person....The President and Congress and the CDC should have taken the lead in making sure Businesses and Citizens required wearing N95 masks and using hand sanitizer which we should have had stockpiled anticipating a P******c....Also Social Distancing and No Large Gatherings, if our Country's Businesses and our Country's People had worked together with the Government leading us there might not even had been a need for any shut down, alleviating most of the economic Hardship Businesses and Laid Off Employees Suffered....Also taking extra precautions for Folks in Nursing Homes and At Risk Folks living in their own Homes taking Extra Precautions....

This is easy to say as an Armchair Quarterback, but these Highly Paid and Supposedly Highly Intelligent Politicians, Doctors, Scientists and Bureaucrats have known about a possible P******c...If I were in a Business and these were my Employees, I would fire Trump, the Democrats and Republicans in Congress, F***i, the CDC, the NIH, the WHO, the Chinese Government, and anyone else who totally failed and was and is responsible for this P******c...
