Hi group,
We've been doing a number of Zoom meetings with closeup instruction using a D750 with a 50mm macro lens. The laptop camera has no lag when in the Zoom meeting but the Nikon connected using a USB cable has a little lag; not enough to be a big problem but we'd like to eliminate it if possible. The "connection software we're using is digiCam Control.
In an effort to fix the problem, we've installed a Cat 6 cable between the laptop and the Internet modem. That helped but still didn't completely fix it. Will an Elgato Cam Link (or similar devise) between the camera's HDMI jack and laptop's USB port fix the problem? What are you doing for your Zoom meetings & webinars? Your thoughts are most welcome. Take care & ...
Al,
My laptop camera is not good. I wanted to use one of my "real" cameras and couldn't get a HDMI to USB adapter. I found an app for my cellphone that allowed it to be used instead. The first set up was via WIFI and it had a lag. The optional set up was by USB charging wire. The setup was more complicated but it works very well with no lag. A neighbor did find an HDMI to USB adapter and it works very well for him (with no lag).
In short, it appears that wireless camera connections and Zoom may not be a good mix.
My quasi-semi-edumacated take is that the computer is causing the lag cuz it’s choking on the D750 feed.
Easy simple check would be to dial down the camera to its minimum pixel count, including using its DX crop.
Because I don't ZOOM very often, I use a smartphone as a webcam, connected via USB or Wi-Fi to my desktop computer. The connecting software is DroidCam, which is available for both Android and IOS smartphones. There is very little lag time with my setup - "your mileage may vary". There are lots of videos online showing how to set this up.

I've noticed the same thing when connecting my D500 to an Elgato Web Cam 4K (which suddenly failed after 2 months use). The lag even extends to it being used with Skype. Obviously the lag is caused by the image going through a number of processes before it arrives on your PC screen. I have not at this stage been able to determine what is the major cause of the lag. As far as the audience is concerned at the other end of the Zoom meeting, I doubt they would be aware of the lag unless the sound was out of sync with the video.

Have you done a Speedtest (ookla.com) to see what your up/down speeds are?
Also, you might want to go the HDMI route as opposed to USB.

I agree, your Full HD Monitor is 2 MP.
Your camera is 24MP...
Zoom probably is having an issue...
As a previous post said - dial down the image!
My thanks to all who have offered suggestions. I've ordered an HDMI cam link and will give it a try. Take care & ...
