I have been attempting to get a great rainbow/landscape shot for a long time. Rainbows are elusive and fleeting. Problem is, they always seem to occur, for me, at the most inopportune times and places like when I have no equipment with me, driving on an expressway, and of course nothing interesting or aesthetically pleasing in the scene or the foreground.
So...I am out and about, going to the grocery store, and a sudden combination of a thunderstorm/sunshower happens- just before twilight! Perfect rainbow conditions and WHAT A RAINBOW! So do I get a lovely old rustic barn, a placid country road, a spectacular urban skyline...? Nooooooo! - I get a construction site with a big ugly crane. The thing is painted dayglow green and looks like a giant praying mantis! I reached for my cellphone, grabbed a shot, and before I could change locations the rainbow faded away- it must have lasted all of 40 seconds, UGH!
I made the shot so I would have a record of this "fish that got away story". Rats!
Sounds par for the course for me.
