Do you find it Difficult to photograph a car show??? Has every angle and idea already been done before? Are you like me and get stuck shooting the "same old shots and angles"? I challenge you on your next car show shoot to use your creative mind and look for different shots than the "TYPICAL" eye view standard car show photographs. Here are some ideas: maybe zoom in on a specific detail or lower your camera angle, maybe raise your camera angle. Find "humor" somehow, like in my series here of #10. Be creative!!! I'm sure we all have seen those "typical" shots of car shows.....break out, change your composition! Think outside of the box!!!! I've put together 10 photos to help give you a slightly different idea of the typical. These are all of a Huntington Beach car show in California. Of course they all look best in download.

Very good series, Brent. Car shows are car shows and almost impossible to get a unique angle that nobody has shot before, your #10 shot being an exception, good luck in your quest.

Nothing recent due to Covid-19 but...
The “Mini” on the left was ours (have a different one now) - an original on the right.

At the beginning of May there is a car show in Dutchess County NY at the fair grounds. I get there early at 7-8am to shoot cars before the crowds, as cars are still coming in. Now there is more room and few if any other car (or people) reflections in the car you want to shoot. Seems there is no link to add a photo to my commet.

I know exactly what you mean. It is often also hard not to get distracting backgrounds and other things in the photos. So I often shoot abstract close-ups where one can not fully tell what they are looking at.

Get there early, then again just before lunch, many will stop to eat and you'll have more space to work. Look for the significant detail along with identifying profile views. Those depend on the particular car. Difficult? One of the hardest things is to keep yourself off the chrome and stay out of the picture. Will not post samples on your thread.

Great series, I love car shows and it is often hard to get a full auto shot without someone in the way!

Very good images. I go to a lot of Porsche events and I have had the best shots come from situations where I was able to access the cars before the event and sometimes the night before. Also, have taken good shots when the cars are being positioned for the show/display. These events are mostly outdoors. I have knee pads to get the low angle shots but it does get hard on the old knees. I know a guy who uses a monopod hoisted in the air getting the camera 3-4 ft. up above normal eye level but keeper rate is very low because he can't see the composition very well. I have tried to hold the camera above my head using live view and have had some descent results. With scores of people around, I try and shoot elements of the cars like instrument panels, head lights etc. At indoor shows I get the worst outcomes due to a lack of space, people and specular lighting. Brent, you do very good work and seem to work around the obstacles very well. Cars are difficult.

The Countryman is actually taller than our XF but much shorter. Handles like a slot car - point and drive.

Number 10, being an example of how people follow instructions in CA, maybe the key to why the virus is going out of control in CA.
