This is a total bummer to us Olympus owners. The camera part of the company is to be sold to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP), a private investment firm focused on acquisitions of companies operating in basic industries throughout Japan. JIP will own the patents and brands (OMD, Zuiko, etc.) In 2014, JIP purchased Vaio from Sony. After 5 years, Vaio finally issued the SX14 laptop to decidedly mixed reviews. Not a good track record. JIP is a very small private equity group ($150 MM in assets). They don’t develop anything. They restructure businesses, take costs out, and sell them. That usually starts with stripping out R&D. So the potential they see is reselling the repackaged business or its assets for more than they paid for it.

I just read that. I have been using M43 since it’s inception and my OM-D Is my go to travel, adventure and favorite all around Camera. My only complaint is that reliability is not as good as with my Nikons. I have had a couple problems with the OM-D. But I was looking forward to adding to my M43 lens collection. Now what? We shall see.
