Captured this Sat night in Kofa, Arizona, just north of Yuma. Best in download.
Canon 6D, Sigma Art 14-24, at 14mm, 20 sec, ISO 5000, stacked 20 sky images with StarryLandscapeStacker. Composite of sky and foreground taken after sunset.
Was only 108 when I arrived at 5:00 and 97 when I left at 12:30. Not another soul within 20 or 30 miles, except for Rt 95 12 miles to the west. Felt very alone - especially with mountains towering over 1,000 above me.

Yes. My car and dog. Only ones for 20 or 30 miles.

Alone on a wide wide sea!
And never a saint took pity on
My soul in agony.”

Jay--

This is very nicely done. I tend to concentrate too much on the sky when shooting at night, but really like the way you handled the terrestrial elements. It will be good motivation for me to try a different view next time I get to go out.

So you sere looking southeast for this view, correct? That means that the nearest town of much significance in that direction would be Gila Bend maybe 40 miles or so away? Looks like you have a really great dark sky site.

Are you willing to share your color temperature setting (or your final value)? I understand if not...that can sometimes be a 'secret ingredient?' I've settled on 5800K or so, because I like to be able to see the blue, red, and white stars.

My other question has to do with your assistant. Much help when you are shooting? Probably really helpful to warn of unexpected danger in the vicinity. I am hoping to be able to get out before it gets too late in the season and low angle opportunities go away.

Nearest town is Yuma about 65 miles to SSW. Caught a bit of light pollution but cropped much of it out of bottom right corner. I usually shoot at 4200K and I like the sky a bit blue. This was the darkest sky I could find within 3 hour drive of Chandler.

I concentrate on something interesting in the FG. However I had to go SW of Phoenix due to the terrible forest fires to the E and NE. I like arches and other interesting rock formations or things like old cars. This was a difficult site to illuminate the mountains as they were so large and distant. I had 2 very bright LED's sets to light them up but it just didn't work so I did the overlay.

I kept her in the car most of the night as I didn't want her chasing wild things or getting hurt with the Old Man plants or other flora that can really hurt you. I've pulled the needles out of her nose, leg, face and feet too many times. Guess she just has a flat learning curve.

The other thing is how amazing the ambient light light can provide just enough light to see the road and my dog with no additional light. Not light enough to see the rocks off the road. But it really is crazy how much illumination star light can provide.

I store my pics on flickr : https://www.flickr.com/photos/157533168@N03/. if you want to see some of my other MW photos with LLL technique.
