Each time I go up the Little Cottonwood Canyon, I look for the notch in the mountains you see coming down that reveals the Salt Lake Valley. This last trip up, I decided to photograph this site with a variety of settings.

Attached is a set of views into the valley from the canyon.

I would appreciate your comment as to the best composition for this view.

Hi Mike. All are good have their own 'personality' but I like the fourth one. Color, composition and detail of the 'notch'! Well done.

#1 is a little difficult to look at for the color of the far side - is that strip mining?

#4 makes a very pretty composition with the clarity of the clouds and the view of the city, as well as feeling I'm standing where you were. #2 has an excellent feeling of depth with the layers of closest, close and onward.

Compositionally --while maintaining interest in each of the major areas-- #2.

What you see is the side of the Kennecott Open Pit Copper Mine, the largest in the world. Someday when i have the time I will go up Butterfield Canyon and get a "look down" shot.

Thanks for taking the time to look and evaluate, Linda.

There seems to be a consensus building.

With a little PP, #1 and #2 would knock #4 into the toilet (though #4 is nice). The composition is so much better on the first 2 photos.

#4 for me, too, Mike. Unlike everyone else I also like #1.
