Unwanted image area change in Nikon d750.

I have recently had image change from FX to DX while I have been photographing my wife flowers. I am using the 24-120mm lens. I frame the flower to fill the frame, I am cataloging her flowers. Luckly yesterday, halfway through the shoot I checked some of the shots. Half of the images were chopped at the edges. I went to the menu and the image area was set to DX 1.5. I reset to FX and finished the shoot. This has happened before and I am confused how this happens. The Fn button is default for this action. I have small hands and it is quite an effort for me to push the button while shooting so I don't think that is happening. I reprogrammed the video button for iso change and I frequently hit the metering button by mistake. Anyway, is there another button or combination that will change the image area? Is there something else that could cause this issue? Thanks.

Yes it’s called image area. Go to the shooting menu and change it back to Fx. I believe you can also access it using the info button.

See page 112 of the users Manuel for info.

Yes, I did that. I mentioned that in my original post. Beside the default Fn button, I wondered if there is some other way I may be causing the change or if there is a problem others may have had.

I missed that? Oops. Sorry. Glad you got it resolved.

The Info button not the Fn button. But it takes more than one button push.

I think that it can be programmed, to a function button, but there is no default button on the body that will change it.

Sometimes carrying the camera with a strap over shoulder, depending on the lens, the body of the camera can rest against your side. If it is turned on when you are walking, it can bump the buttons and change things. I have had that happen. Carry it turned OFF to prevent that.

I read that the Fn button was default for image area change. I have never reprogrammed it. I pushed the button and turned the thumb dial and sure enough, it changed the image area from Fx to Dx. That is all I know. Thanks for your input.

Ha! I must have changed mine right out of the box. I recommend you change that.

What did you reprogram it to do?

I don't usually have a problem with hitting it accidentally, but I reprogrammed the Fn button to give me RAW + JPEG for the rare time I might not be satisfied with JPEG Fine. Might work for you - an accidental hit on that wouldn't hurt anything.

Haha. I have my slots set to RAW and jpeg. I give my wife the jpeg for her records then I play with the RAW in Lightroom.

Yeah, I don't care for post work, mostly can't be bothered with RAW - so for me it is a "just in case I see something entirely out of the ordinary" button I can use on the fly. Certainly there are lots of other things you could program the Fn for that would prevent the inadvertent format change.

I programmed it for Spot Metering and the other button on the front for DOF Preview. I set up BBF on the AE/AF Lock button.

My standard setup on all my digital cameras, I like to be able to quickly access ISO and WB, Spot metering and DOF. SLR's same I like to quickly access DOF and Spot Metering.

I am totally inept at Lightroom. That is why I only play. I am going to see what my reprogram options are and change the Fn button. Thanks.

You can reprogram the fn button for something like camera level or whatever.

Yes infact, I reprogrammed it to virtual horizon. Thanks.
