Is there and easy way to make sure all my photos are in PSE 12 from File Explorer?

You will need go into PSE 12's settings and direct the program to which folders to look for photos. If your images are scattered all over the place on your hard drive, it is probably a good idea to organize them better.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but the PSE Organizer may not be needed. You can open into Photoshop Elements directly from Explorer. If you want to get a more complete file browser, Adobe provides Bridge for free.

It depends on how you have your photos organized, or not.

If you have all of the photo directories under one mail directory, I would imagine pointing PSE to that directory will show all sub directories, therefore all photos.

If they are in different directories all over the drive, rook2c4 is correct.

Open PSE, click on Import, and browse to the location where your photos are and select them. This will create a marker in PSE's database for Each folder where the photos are located and a screen will show a thumbnail of each photo. Select Folder on the top left of your screen and you will see the folder that’s been tagged. This view mimics the File Explorer view and functions the same way. Using PSE's Organizer you can categorize and tag them for easy sorting later on, as well as open the Editor to edit RAW or other types of photos. Lots of basic PSE instruction on YouTube.

Life is simpler if all the photos are in one "master" directory.

That’s pretty much how I start out. Plus I use "yyyy mm text descriptor" for my sub-folder names when I copy from my Sd card to the PC. All originals copy strait to an external drive, then that new folder to the PC under Pictures-Adobe, then import to PSE from there. I don’t like working from external drives with Elements. Had a bad experience doing that.

I never work from externals, they are my backups.
I copy new images to a <category><subject><YYYY-MM>directory (Desk top and laptop).
I could never find anything by date as I can never remember when I went where, but I can remember subjects. Different date trips are in the subject directory by year-month. Individual image dates (days) are in the image file data. I browse all in Windows Explorer. I never put dates in the file name for the same reason, it would be redundant for me. Carbonite does the disaster recovery backup, and The new ones get backed up locally when I perform a backup (which may be immediate like after a week at Acadia).

No, I don't believe so. You would need to check through the Organizer and import any you find are not there. You can compare the directory of imported folders with your directory in the file explorer to see if any directories are missing in Organizer.
