Billingham - in the cart, out of the cart. In the cart, out of the cart. In the cart....

I have wanted to get a medium sized Billingham shoulder bag for a long time. I've long known that Billingham makes a quality product and rarely see a negative review. I love the care and craftsmanship that I've read goes into these bags. The main thing that has kept me from buying one has been the price. They are not inexpensive bags. Last night I saw that B&H had a sale on the Billingham S4 shoulder bag and, while it still isn't "cheap," it was priced a good deal less than what I saw for the same bag on EBay and other sites.

Have you even had one of those items that you put in your cart and removed from the cart several times? That was me last night. $199 was not a bad price from what I've seen for a medium sized Billingham bag, but it's still a lot of money for a shoulder bag. In the end, I decided it would be part of my early Birthday present to myself

I hope it lives up to the hype and the price. I plan to use it for around town trips where I'll carry my 5DIV and a couple extra lenses.

Let me just wish you a very happy birthday--lots of candles and plenty of cake. You will really like the Billingham bag. I have several and thoroughly enjoy them. After reading your post, however, I went to B&H and the burgundy S4 is now on my wish list. This is an example of waking up in the morning needing nothing and by noon desperately needing another bag. Hope you enjoy yours for years to come.

Happy Birthday ... and yes, you are not alone. I will agonize over small purchases for days, sometimes week but won't think twice about spending forty-five thousand for a truck I want.

I store all my gear in backpacks. When I first started I saw a listing on Craig's List for a Nanue Safari pack. I checked it out on their webpage and saw new ones going for close to $300. The listing was for $75. I bought it as it was like new. The guy used it once. He told me people were offering him $50 for it. Crazy.

If you like something and really have a need or just want it because you can, I say go for it. In the end, your purchase should and probably will make you happy that you did buy it.

Funny how that works. The little angel on my shoulder tried desperately to convince me not to, but the little devil won this round!

Good for you! I've used the Hadley pro for about 5 years now, outstanding quality. Wasn't familiar with S4 so I googled it and it looks just like Hadley pro. Did it replace it? One of the best places to buy these(and other pro photo gear) is at Kohscamera.com. They are on Long Island, NY and I have dealt with them for over 35 years. Covid currently has the store front closed, but their web is up and ship anywhere.

Rarely, I will put something in my cart and leave it there while I think. Then I buy it. Ordinarily, I put it in my cart and click Buy right away.

Go for it! You will not find a better made bag, with the finest materials. I've had mine for over 30 years (in fact I have 3 inc. 2 Hadleys for my smaller cameras/kits. The large one is for my DSLR & several lenses). It has given me excellent service over the years & is still admired, though looking rather well used. The quality of the leather & solid brass fittings, not to mention the canvas will not let you down. look upon it as an investment. Buy cheaper & you will end up buying a new one in a few years time. Trust me on this one. ps I have no connection to this company nor receive any financial incentives, just a very satisfied customer.

I don't think it's replacing it. It is similar, though. In one of the reviews from someone who has the Hadley Pro also they said the two have roughly the same internal dimensions, but that the S4 is a bit wider making it good for carrying two bodies. When I look at the two, the S4 seems to be a bit cleaner design. For example the straps on the front of the S4 don't have the buckles that the Pro has and also the S4 doesn't have a handle. It also doesn't seem to have the prominant leather sign that screams "Billingham." I think the only place that says Billingham is a small cloth tag on one of the seams.

Wow, 30 years is a pretty good test of time! I have long wanted to get a Billingham bag and when I saw this one on sale the temptation was just too great to resist. I appreciate the quality that obviously goes into these bags.

I am a professional photographer (architectural, interiors, landscape, Lifestyle) so this bag has been 'used' not cosseted like a 'new-born' over those 30 + years. It's seen out 4 camera kits. It has been 'dumped' in the back of the car unceremoniously inc. the boot or trunk as you call it, same on location, kicked around the studio, traveled in the overhead 'bins' on planes, it's like all my gear, it's a tool, it doesn't have to look pretty (but this does, when new at least) & has to perform. & it does perfectly! Get the leather shoulder pad with it also. Maybe someone else can get you that as a birthday present?
You won't regret it. They also sell well 2nd hand, if you ever need to part with it?
