Can't decide between
18-400mm
150-600
and brand.....

The Tamron 150-600 G2 is excellent. I use one for Canon 6d Mark ll and EOS 90D with great results.

What purpose? Even the two you listed are very different, very different classes lenses, the purpose is important in this context.

What are you looking to photograph?
btw, any optic over 3x is likely consumer quality...
If you are serious about your work get high end fast glass... especially if you are shooting action...
My fav for league soccer is an AF 300mm f/2.8
Zoom optics are a compromise at best... Those who shoot commercially tend to work with primes...
btw (IS, OS or VR) is irrelevant for action sports etc...

Tell use what you want to achieve and just maybe you'll get some meaningful input...

Thanks for the reply.....

I would be using it on a Nikon D750 and D850........

Doing mostly small wild life [ gators...rabbits...birds] ..... sun sets / sunrises.......jut around the community that I lve in....

The 18-400 is not made for your full frame cameras anyway.
Sure, you can use it in crop mode, but at reduced megapixels.
There are few exceptions, but most are soft on the long end.

I have one and am very happy with it. The Sigma S is much heavier and more expensive. The Sigma C has lower IQ. The Tamron G2 has about the same IQ as the S but is lighter and costs just a bit more than the C, in my opinion.

Both the 18-400 and 150-600 are 3rd party lenses. Please keep in mind that any lens with a zoom span of 18-400 will result in softer images than a lens with a shorter zoom range of say 150-600.
That said, my favorite lenses are, in no particular order, the Canon 100-400, Sony 100-400, Sony 200-600, and the Nikon 200-500. All of these lenses are built to a higher standard than an off brand 150-600.
I know they all cost more, but are your images worth it? If they aren't, then go with the off brand 150-600.
You asked for our opinions, your getting one.

A Tamron 150-600mm G2 coupled to a Nikon D500 for 3.5 years works like a charm for me, for not only for birds , but GREAT close-ups of butterflies and flowers.. Most shooting done hand-held. The BEST purchase I've ever made!!

I know that both Tamron and Sigma have those zooms that have very good quality but I tend to favor the lenses made by the manufacturer for their cameras, unless money is a consideration. The 200-500 f4 VR made by Nikon has excellent reputation and it would be a good match for your cameras.

There is no comparison between the Tamron 18-400 and 150-600 G2. If you are seeking good to excellent performance from 150-600, the G2 is a great choice. If you are looking for good performance from 18- to about 250mm, and aren't after high detail in longer shots, then the 18-400 is ok. However, many of the 18-300 lenses out there are better in their focal length range.

One lens is for getting great results of distant subjects with lots of detail, the other is a convenience lens, targeted at someone who doesn't really want to bother carrying something heavy that has a limited focal length range. When I think of a long lens, the 18-400 does not come to mind.

I've been very happy with the Tamron 100-400. I've taken some great pictures with it on a Nikon D7200.
