I just got a new iPad Pro 12.9" to replace a ~10 years old pad. I'm very impressed with the new device especially the Retina display. I installed LR CC and viewed some images synced from LR Classic.
Now I have a problem with the images on my PC - they are 1920 to 1080 which used to be the standard but look really not great compared with the iPad.
So I'm considering upgrading my 27" monitor. I don't print images, I don't sell anything. I've looked at, say BenQ, quite a few choices. They have several 4K monitors at a range of prices. What would be an adequate monitor other than having 4k resolution? It doesn't have to be a BenQ, just any make that offers quality monitors.

Alternative to BenQ - Try checking ASUS PA32UCG (or any of the Asus Pro Art range), Dell UP2720Q. Once you try the 4K monitors, you will not want to go back to 1920 x 1080.

I'm very happy with my hardware calibrated BenQ SW240, which is on the low end of the price scale for a good 99% Adobe RGB monitor.

I bought a Dell 4K. It’s great. Buy a monitor with a USB C power outlet so that you can just hook up your Pro directly to the monitor without an additional power cord. One cord, USB C, for both powering up your computer and for data transmission.

Just replaced a TV and they are selling 8K now with Samsung. No 8 K media yet, but they’re selling the TV.

Samsung, LG and Sony are all offering 8K sets. Go watch a demonstration on the 75in screens and it is amazing how sharp and beautiful the picture is. There are 8K clips you can watch from YouTube. Sony and Panasonic were hoping the 2020 Tokyo Olympics would have given 8K a big boost, unfortunately COVID 19 postponed all that. Even there is very little 8K media on offer at present, these sets do upscale what existing media you have and feed into it. At least if you buy one now, it will be fairly future proof for a few years (providing your budget allows as they are quite expensive at the moment).

Thanks everybody for your help. My video card, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 w/2,048MB video memory, is not available anymore. I called PNY, the maker of the card and was told 1) to get a monitor with Display Port or HDMI 2.0 and 2) the card supports 4k. You really need to tie all loose ends otherwise it's an expensive purchase that may also need a PC upgrade, etc.
