I wonder what Vincent Serpico would make of that monologue.

Having said that, honest cops have my admiration and respect.

I never cared much for Paul Harvey. He was too full of himself.

Powerful message - and one I believe is as true today as it was then.

What happened in Minneapolis is a crime, everyone agrees with that.
There really are bad cops.
But to say police are putting communities under siege is false, it’s an opportunistic charge that resonates well with the likes of Colin Kaepernick.
The most troubling aspect are the spineless politicians who are giving in to the insanity. New York City Mayor Bill DeBlazio will defund his police department by one billion dollars.
Our country is in serious trouble because DeBlazio is not alone.
People will seek protection elsewhere.
What happened in Minneapolis was a tragedy, but that is getting lost now as the list of demands are absurd as we see in Seattle. This country is in very serious trouble as political correctness does not allow for constructive dialogue.
Without healthy communication, we as a nation suffer, everyone of us. Time to speak up. I do.
Cops, firefighters and EMS have my highest respect.

This may have been about the same time as Chicago columnist Mike Royko wrote about a citizen who watched as his stuff was taken - he couldn't call the cops because local cops were the thieves.

Absolutely! The tail is striving to wag the dog. And succeeding in many instances.

Part of the trouble now is the fact that the right to speak up is being taken away from us by those who don't agree with what we say. I was reprimanded this morning about a post the other day in this section that I posted by Bill Mayer, and it was sent to the "attic" because of a political nature of what He said. Yet just know I've seen several posts in this section today that could come under the same censorship, but they are still here. It is pretty hard to stay away from that subject today considering almost everything is twisted into a political argument anymore in some one's eyes. Freedom of speech is slowly but surely disappearing in Our Country. I think I was threatened with having my account canceled, so be careful what you say anymore. By the way, My Son is a Firefighter, and I thank you for what you said about Policemen, Firefighters, and EMS personnel. I worry about him all the time. God bless all of them.

So very true, free speech is being changed and not for the better. It began several years ago when the Supreme Court decided that desecrating out flag was a non-verbal form of free speech. Prior to that it was a crime to deface, desecrate or damage our country's flag. Not anymore.

I do agree that some people in "power" have allowed that power to go to their heads and they abuse it. That is wrong and should change. Another change that would help is people growing some slightly thicker skin. Not all comments are meant to be harmful and many are said without forethought. Sometimes we let our limousine mouth over-rule our bicycle mind.

George Floyd was a big guy 6’ 5 to 6’ 6. Not saying in anyway he deserved to die but he had meth in his system. Luckily I have never had to go up against someone in that state but I understand they are tanks. Can see why it took four cops to get him down. Once subdued he should have have been off his neck, in fact never should have been on it.

Big or not, from the videos that I have seen, he was not resisting, or significantly aggressive. He was handcuffed and moving in what appeared to be the direction of the patrol cars.

I have worked in mental health facilities and in prisons. Work history in those places of over25 years combined. I have only been involved in or seen one or two situations where additional force or a take down was necessary. And never a case where a knee on a back or neck was needed. Trust me some mentally ill persons have the size and strength to match or surpass George Floyd’s. The officers did not need to use those tactics.

Typically a post is sent to the Attic after the Admin becomes aware of it, so complain to him - use “Report Issue” if you feel it has become too political.

Are you familiar with “Excited Delirium Syndrome?” Because of the drugs he had taken and his two heart conditions he most likely died because of this syndrome. Nothing Chauvin did or did not do resulted in Floyd’s death. Chauvin followed recommended procedures to the letter including maintaining pressure on the neck until EMS arrived. George Floyd killed George Floyd.
