Lonely barn in the Palouse

Once again, attached is another barn I came across while spending a week exploring the Palouse for old barns and abandoned homesteads. And, as with other photos, my attempt was to indicate the vastness of the area and isolation of the structure. The entire photo was enhanced with Luminar Flex plugin. With its help, I was able to bring out a great deal of tones in the clouds, bring down the brightness in the green grass, but add a touch of brightness to the center of the grass (winter wheat) as if a shaft of sunlight was shining through. I also dodged the barn a bit to help it stand out. As always, your comments are welcome. Good, bad, or otherwise. Ken

Hello Pittsburgh, from the west side of the Cascades and the NW corner of the US. Hopefully all is well in your neck of the woods and you're dealing with the Corona crap as well as can be expected.

Best wishes!

Andrew Wyeth, eat your heart out! All it needs is a girl lying on the grass in the foreground looking up at the building. Beautiful image.

Ken, this has the makings of a really great shot. But, I would work on composition a little. Small items in the (mostly) center of the image are not as powerful as using in this case the rule of thirds. This image could be improved in my opinion by cropping. Because of its size, there are several options to play with.
I struggle with composition myself, and I even go back to paintings by the old masters for examples. Keep it up, this is great in many other ways.

Good morning "Photobum",

Absolutely terrific capture. Those cloudy days can produce some of the most saturated coloration you can get. This one really deserves a frame and to be placed on display. Great. Keep 'em coming!

All the best to you and yours and stay safe during these difficult times.

And remember to keep practicing "physical distancing" but not "social distancing". Maintain contact with those you care about by any means possible -- e-mail, telephone, post etc. We need this type of contact more than ever. I have noticed more folks waving than I have noted prior to the "troubles". I guess we really do need each other after all. Sorry I got a little carried away there but photos like yours have always made me a little more thoughtful / introspective / philosophical.

Take care,

Terry
