Has anyone had any experience with the Sony RX100?

I've had mine a couple of months now and love it! I find i'm leaving behind my DSLR more and more. Image quality is outstanding, it's tiny so slips into my purse without adding a lot of weight. I'm thinking of buying the handgrip though to improve the handling, as the body is smooth and I would hate to test the "sensor drop" ! Prior to this little guy I used the Leica D-Lux6 which I liked, but the Sony gives so much more, including that important IQ! Oh, I'm not a fan of cameras without viewfinders, but the lcd on the RX100 even in bright sunlight is so good I don't miss the viewfinder at all.

I have had the RX-100 for over a month now and it is my take everwhere camera (love it). I agree with the last poster on the issue with the grip, but that is a minor issue compared with everything you get from this camera. I am including a picture taken with the RX-100.

Loved the photo! I've just received the "ever-ready" case for my RX100 so I'm going to try that and see if it gives me better grip. As you say, it's such a minor quibble giving the overall quality of this camera. I'm attaching, I hope (!) one taken in a subway station at 400 ISO - I find the photos very good at high ISO's, like 1600

I've had one for two weeks. I bought it so that I could get better picture quality from a larger sensor, RAW capability, some HDR functionality and a good lens. I also like shooting video.

For the price, I could have had a DSLR, but I don't want one of those due to bulk and weight. Pants or shorts with larger pockets are my camera bag.

So far I have not taken many pictures that are photographically interesting. The have all been "test" and "learning" shots. I can't find anything wrong with any of them. One thing that surprised me is how quick it is. I'm used to a Sony HX9V. The RX100 turns on and is ready to shoot much sooner, especially for video.

If you work the internet hard enough, you will find a few people that report "flaws" in extreme situations. For example someone was shooting sheets of newspaper with lots of fine print at f 1.8 and the widest angle lens setting. He suggested the corners were "soft". So, I guess his message was that if you need to photograph newspapers there might be a better choice.

Everyone else on the internet that owns one goes nuts over how great it is.

Interesting after market accessories are becoming available. One is a system to attach filters magnetically. Another is a rubber grip that can be glued on.

The shooting in an automatic mode is simple and the jpegs produced are excellent. Optionally, the menu is long and deep allowing use of an amazing set of features that is too long to list. Everything can be set manually and there are lots of functions and effects, even unusual one.

Did I say this is a small camera with a big ego?

I bought the Richard Franciec grip for mine & it was a piece of cake to install.
