I have a Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens that has decided to stop autofocusing. Tried it on both my cameras and it just will not autofocus. All other lenses autofocus just fine.
Looking for a reputable Nikon service company to get it repaired.
I have found APS in Morton Grove Illinois. Does anyone have any experience with them or have a different repair place that you recommend?
Appreciate any help I can get.
Also, it is the 70 - 200 2.8 VR lens over 10 years old. Is it worth repairing? How is the Tamron or Sigma 70 - 200 2.8 lens?
Thanks
Will
If you tried it on two different cameras it seems to point to a problem with that lens for sure.

Did you check the manual/ autofocus switch on the lens? It could have been accidentally switched to manual.

Call the best, Nikon at 1-800-645-6687
Authorized Photo Service, in Morton Groove, Illinois (APS) is an excellent repair station for your lens. Till now they have been trained by Nikon, do repairs to Nikon gear exclusively and their prices are competitive. The quality of their repairs is excellent and they are always there to talk to you if needed. Now that Nikon is monopolizing repair services I am sure they will have difficulties getting parts.
Highly recommended.

I don't think you're going to find reputable repair facilities open right now, and the cost of repair would be rather high. If I were you, I would simply focus manually. I often do that anyway, depending on the situation.
The Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 FL is superior to the old one. Sigma and Tamron can't touch it. I have the Tamron too.
Nikon in Los Angeles or New York.
Its over 10 years? Check that the lens doesn't have a 10 surrounded by a circle of arrows. If it does, it might be shot.
APS just repaired my 70-200 2.8 G VR. They did a fine job, works like new. BTW Nikon no longer repairs that lens (FYI). After multiple wimpy conversations with their customer service, I was very disappointed and has resulted in reconsideration of ALL future Nikon investments. $390 plus shipping. HOWEVER, I had additional repairs done because my lens as damaged in shipment. An additional $200 charge. I shipped from Hawaii using USPS next day. I bought replacement insurance from USPS. Even after two months of over the phone fights, loads of pictorial/written evidence provided to USPS by APS (again, they were terrific!), USPS refused to pay. SO, I will continue to use APS in the future for any and all repairs to my Nikon gear (not Nikon). USPS is no longer an option for shipping anything. Recommend UPS. Good luck.
Have you tried cleaning the contacts?

Although considered a third party lens, I can assure you it is a worthy alternative 😎. I've owned it for approximately a year and have been pleased with it's rendering as I continue to grow with it. Ergonomics will always be a personal choice. Rent it and the Sigma for a weekend and let us know your opinion. Trust you've called Nikon for support. Seems like not to terrible an expensive fix. Hopefully fellow hedgehogs can weigh in.
APS is a good place for all Nikon repairs. I have been using them for about 10 years now and I am very happy with them. I go to their place, when I visit Chicago a couple of times a year, and drop off my cameras or lenses and they mail them to your home because some repairs take a few days or weeks to be done. They also will clean the camera sensor while waiting and that takes about 90 minutes. They are very reputable and like to walk in their place without having to pack and mail cameras and lenses.
