Hi,

I am new to photography and primarily use a Canon 80D with a Tamron 18-400mm lens. I use Photoshop Elements 2020 for post-processing (recent photo attached, I hope). I have enjoyed reading posts over the past month or so and have been trying to get out every day. Feeling a bit obsessed as I have been bitten by the bug. Now what? I am filling up my hard drive, making a photo book or two, canvas art on the wall, etc. What do you folks do with all of your photos? Ideas welcome!. Thanks.

Welcome, don't let that 'bug' take too big a bite! Enjoy and have fun.

Elements has a photo organizer that I'm told is very good. I don't use it, I prefer Windows File Explorer. Those who use Elements File Manager will tout its goodness. I take upwards of 100 images at each family gathering. I have a system for Elements Expert Mode post processing that lets me process most images in about 2 1/4 minutes, each. For any given event, I make a Folder and name it: "Date (yyyy-mm-dd) Subject". In that folder I make two sub-folders: Originals and Discards. All my images start out in the Originals Folder. I load them to Elements, 10 at a time, process them and save them to the main folder with an added _x. Any that I don't intend to use, I press Ctrl+W to send them back to the Originals Folder. Occasionally I mistakenly save a processed image to the Originals Folder and the _x makes them easy to find. When I've processed a batch of 10, I open the Originals Folder and transfer any with a _x to the main folder. Then I transfer the originals I've processed and any I've decided not to process to the Discards Folder. Then I start over. I never dump the discards folder until my wife and I are absolutely satisfied with the processed images. Then I select all of the processed images and then for the first one, I right-click > Rename. I name it the same as the folder name and they all get that name and numbered from 1 to x. Then I delete the Discard and now-empty Originals folders. I send the images to the family using Google Drive. After a few months we move the images we want to display on picture frames to the current Five Year Folder and archive delete the rest. If you choose to work with File Explorer and want help setting it up, Private Message me.

Wow Jeffers. Look like you have a very thoughtful workflow. I will give that some serious consideration as I build my catalog.

Thank you!

Yes that bug is a severe one. It leads to the conditions of GAS and OCPD (obsessive compulsive photography disorder)
