Quick shot as I got home, seen nothing exciting, but there he was and thought you would be interested. He has been around for years. Smashing bloke, not like the others scrap men who drive round like bandits, they would take your car off the drive if they thought no one was looking.
Nice thanks for these shots. You dont see this much these days.
I remember an old romany couple in their 70's when i was young, they lived in a victoriana caravan in the woods.
never see anything like this in the states. brings back some memories for me. 50 yrs ago knew a family that traveled by horse and wagon.
Nice pics, unusual to see now, used to see lots when I was a kid, milk carts and coal carts too. Used to be a rush with the bucket an shovel for the manure too lol.
Very good, history repeating itself.
Wow, great shots. Brings back memories. Grew up in NYC. Late 40's , 50's. Vegetable wagons, knife sharpeners, junk men, all pulled by horses. Thanks so much for posting. Great! Henry
Thanks all, we still get a knife sharpener with horse and old stile caravan, he comes and hangs around for a month each year. I also remember the horse drawn coal and grocery carts delivering in my youth. Happy days.
Iremember these rag and bone men when it was the norm. They used to give you a donkey stone to clean the front step with in exchange for a few rags. For all our friends from the States a donkey stone was a piece of pumice stone with a shape of a donkey on it and they where used to clean the front doorsteps of your house. Excellent shots and thanks for the memory.
You must be an old git like me. That sardstone in your hand wouldent be the updated version would it?
