Today I was hanging new blinds on our kitchen windows. When I wasn't on the ladder, Annie {who is now about eight months old} tried some more tricks, including trying to catch her tail by reaching under the part she was sitting on {but her tail hasn't grown quite that long yet}. Eventually she did fall off the ladder - but managed to grab one of the rungs as she fell.

They can be more amusing than any comedy ever shown. I just had to have one put down Monday. Can't take on any more now, or any more grief.

Thank you for your comment - even at this time for you.

I don’t know that this will help right now, but Annie joined our family about four months ago only because 16-1/2 year old Velcro died in January.

Although Velcro had been a part of our family I could not imagine doing without, I had to look very hard to find any photographs of her here. In recent years, her life had consisted of commuting to different parts of our house to take naps, and I guess I thought that photos of her would bore members here; Annie has done more interesting things in her four months with us than Velcro had done in the last five years.

Last year Velcro started losing weight. The only thing the Vet could say with certainty was that she had a deficit of thyroid output, so for almost a year twice a day I would rub her ear with medication; at first she hid and we played hide-and-seek twice a day. Now I suspect she was getting sicker when she no longer bothered to hide from me; at least she purred as I rubbed. And then she died on Jan 9th - of cancer we think.

At first we planned to take some time getting another cat, but a little calico had flirted with me when I stopped at the local PetSmart to get some treats for Velcro, so we thought we should give her a chance. The cats from that shelter had been rotated to another store that very morning - now the kitten we called “Annie” {the shelter called her “Maria” because she and her sister “Natalie” had come from the West side of town} were there to win our hearts - and now I may use the name “Velcro” when I mean “the cat”, I have to be honest and admit I seldom think of her herself very much.

I wish I could take them all. I also wish I was young enough to outlive them. My circumstances won't allow me to do that. I have 5 indoors cats and one in a dog kennel outside. My brother has 5 cats also, and he has a serious heart condition from years of smoking. If he passes before I do I'll have 11 cats to care for, in addition to my 98 year old mother. Someone recently set out a mama cat and her 3 kittens that are very wild, and a yellow tabby male that is tame. It breaks my heart to have to take them to animal services, but I don't have any other choices. I also am in serious need of knee replacement. Ok, I'm through having my pity party. It helped just to unload.

Oh, ‘unload’ all you want to.

Maybe the cats you turn into a Rescue place will find good homes that way, and someone else will be blessed as we were.

{Annie was sitting on my lap as I typed, but she didn’t dictate any of it}

I'm pretty certain the yellow tabby will because he is very tame. I'm keeping him in another dog kennel so he won't kill all my chipmunks and baby rabbits until I can get him to animal services without my mother's knowledge. Unfortunately, the others are extremely wild.
