Hi. I've been reading UHH for a couple years and finally registered to seek help as I've already been helped in many ways by the members. I have a licensed copy of ProShow Gold which worked flawlessly until today. I rendered a show and received an embedded message that "This software may be in use illegally". Yesterday, no problem. Can anyone in the UHH community help? I know the creator has moved on to Phototopia.
Welcome to UHH Inl, glad you finally joined us. Sorry, I do not know that program but I am sure someone will come along and be able to assist you. Where in S.W. Florida? I am in Ellenton, about 40 miles south of Tampa.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Welcome to UHH. Unfortunately I can't help you with ProShow though.

I use Pro Show and in the last few months I got a notice that they were going out of business and would no longer have any customer support. I used my program a few weeks ago with no problem but every time I use it I hold my breath. Here is what I found. “Photodex Corp., maker of the popular ProShow slideshow product line, announced it is shutting down Jan. ... After over 30 years, Photodex Corporation will be closing permanently on January 31, 2020. We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers over the last three decades“
They announced going out of business in January. They promised to keep the registration server up and running. There was a glitch a few days ago and the server went offline. It is back now, so you will need to re-enter your registration number. You can follow progress on this on either the ProshowEnthusiasts forum online or with the ProShow Facebook page. The situation is being followed by both groups. Several people have successfully reregistered with the server but then had problems publishing so I recommend checking in with either of these two groups.
Try this to fix your problem. It has worked in the past for a number of different problems. This was suggest by tech support a number of years ago I think about version 5 or 6.
On the C: drive in the >program files (x86) >photodex >proshow (Gold or Producer) > delete the file *.PHD. This will remove the indexing and locations and force proshow to re-index and setup. It is the re-setup that you want to have happen. Should your directory index get scrambled or will not show new directories that have been added this will fix that also.
Should this not fix your problem then the next step according to the Tech Support people was to take a copy of Proshow Gold or Producer and reinstall OVER the existing copy. If the trouble continues to exist then Tech Support suggested that the entire program be uninstalled and then you reboot your machine and reinstall. This appears to be a common problem with one certain windows 10 update. This update was fixed on a later update from Microsoft. It did not see to affect the Windows 7 system.
Been using Proshow Gold then switched to Producer since version 1. I have a number of videos on line but all are with out sound except one. Visit
www.polkcounty.org/video and have a look.
For the Military Veterans I have one special video at
www.afdasf.org. The American Legion and The VFW both will tell you that this is well worth the watch. Click on the center picture to view the video and this does have sound. This is a military site so there is other info there as well.
Enjoy

I still have my original version of Pro Show Gold. As far as I know it is still functional. You paid for the license when you purchased the software and still have rights of use. I have not created a show in quite a while, but if I saw that message, I'd ignore it and continue the rendering.

Actually, if you see the message, the output will render with a yellow banner that has red letters saying "Evaluation copy". In the case of "suspected illegal" message, I'm not sure how it will render. Check the two ref's I mentioned because there are instructions steps to create output without checking the server. Right now it seems the problem is only partially solved from what I've read, by having the server back online. It's not a matter of whether you legally own it, it's whether the software recognizes that. All changed this past week when the registration server went offline.

Photodex closed its doors and shut down its operations permanently on 01/01/2020. You might get limited support from Photopia.
If you don't have a note of your registration code or activation code, be sure to get it written down somewhere. And if you have the installation file, be sure to put a copy of it somewhere safe. With both of those you should be good to go regardless of what happens.

Thank you. I knew they were out of business but that our licensed software was still to be usable. I will check your suggested sites. I rendered a show less than 20 hours before this so was flummoxed about the situation.

Thank you. I got no support from Photopia. They didn’t have a solution to the problem.

Thanks. I have both the registration code and the installation file but didn’t want to re-install before checking other options.

Thank you. ProShow has been fully functional...until yesterday. I rendered a show about 20 hours earlier and wanted to make some changes. That’s when I got the message. Unfortunately, ignoring the message doesn’t work as it is embedded in the file and displays front and center throughout the rendered slideshow.
As a side note, due partly to your past responses, I bought a Sony RX10-M4 about 2 years ago. It is now my only camera and I love it.
