Has anyone bought or used the new Nikon P950?

No, did I did buy a P900. I returned it because it did not meet my expectations. Dark finder, slow auto focus, not as sharp as my other cameras. This P950 may be much improved, but whether you like it or not will probably depend on your expectations and what other cameras you are accustomed to. They are not small, but if it meets your needs, that, a spare battery and card, and you're off to the races. I would suggest you try before you buy. Good Luck with your decision and purchase.

I think one of the things Nikon improved on the P950 is the viewfinder, made it bigger and brighter. I don’t know if the AF speed was improved.

If I were looking to buy a new bridge camera, even if I had to save up for it, I would look to buy the Sony RX10IV. It doesn’t have the ultra zoom some other bridge cameras have, but I find I don’t often have a need for the extreme zoom range of the P900. Hard to beat the RX10IV.

Nice camera, but twice the price of the Nikon. The P950 is almost a pound lighter than the P1000 and has most of the same features with the exception that it doesn't have the zoom range.

You’re right, the RX10IV is not cheap, by a long shot. But then, a lot of folks thing nothing of dropping a lot more than that on a DSLR and lenses, or a mirrorless camera and lenses. I guess it’s all in what you want and what will serve your needs the most.

Exactly. In spite of the small sensor this is an incredible camera. The capability of the lens from close, 2 inches, to far is amazing. Great range of features and controls. At 91 I find it a bit heavy but I don't have to carry anything else but a pola filter. It gives a feeling of confidence, of power to do just about anything you might want..

Yes, that ZEISS 24-600 mm zoom lens is 'amazing'!

I have a Nikon D7200 with a large assortment of lenses and I really love its quality. I also have an old Panasonic Lumix DM-Z5 which is a nice little bridge camera, but the quality is just okay. I'm 69 and have some lower back and hip problems from a couple of injuries, so it has to be a good day for me to feel like hauling the D7200 and lenses around. I live in the mountains of NC on the New River and there's a lot to shoot here, flowers, landscapes, birds, wildlife etc. I carry my Panasonic around a lot of the time since it's just easier. But, I've been thinking about something with better glass and capabilities. I typically shoot RAW and JPEG with my D7200. I've looked at the P900 in the past, but it doesn't shoot RAW. The P1000 does, but it's a bit on the heavy side and I don't think I need the reach of the lens on it. The P950 appears to be a bit of a scale down since it is almost a pound lighter, shoots RAW and has about 1/2 to 2/3rds the lens reach of the P1000. Don't know that I'll do anything until I can find out more about it. The Sony is a great camera, and would consider it if that was going to be my only or primary camera. Just can't see spending that much for this need.

So, MtnMan, what is the max. reach of your current lens used with your D7200? And how often do you utilize that lens at Max reach?? I have been to the Mtns of NC and I would have loved to have had more reach than I had with the camera and lens that I had with me. I have both the P900 and the P1000 and they are fine camera's in their own right. They are not a Be-all, End-All in cameras, but then what camera is?? I sense that you realize you will be giving up some things moving from your current DSLR to a Bridge camera. But, you sound like me. Health reasons made it very difficult to lug around a DSLR and an assortment of lens'. And when you take the camera and just one lens with you, to avoid lugging the weight around, it never fails that you wished you'd brought another lens, but you didn't. Your P950 will solve those problems.

You also are familiar with Nikon, so there is some advantage in reducing the learning curve of your new camera.

The Sony recommended is a Great Camera in its own right. But giving up a 83x reach for a 25x reach is not small amount if you are shooting a lot of nature. And for 200% the price of the P900?! If I were in your shoes I would order in the P950 from a source that allows unquestioned returns in 30 days. Take the camera and have some fun with it for most of those 30 days. You have nothing to lose.

I just purchased my Nikon P950 about a week ago, and do far I love it. This is to replace a Lumix fz80.
I am not a seasoned expert by any means. But I feel this camera fills my needs.
My primary emphasis is Birding and nature. I find the zoom lens reach combined with the "Bird scene mode" work great. I have taken about 2500 photos so far. And I have been happy with the detail and clarity of my
Be careful where you buy it. I bought one (and later returned it) from a walmart.com source. No nikon warranty card and a European power adapter. The seller said I dont need to register with Nikon

I returned it and bought from Amazon
So far so good.

Just my thoughts so far
