How close can you get on African Safari?

Pretty close! It was so awesome many times over! In most of the preserves and in Kruger NP there is no longer any hunting. The animals have learned that the vehicles that drive around near them pose no threat, so they mostly ignore them. As long as you don't leave the vehicle, you are usually OK. Of course, occasionally the elephants or rhinos will charge a car, and the hippo is the most dangerous large animal in Africa - they can kill swimmers and capsize small boats.

The hippo pictured here is "Jessica" - an 18-year old female that was rescued out of the debris from a flood as a calf. She was bottle fed and as she grew was allowed to return to the wild - but she still returns in the afternoon for some carrots and iced tea.

Great set Steve. That Lioness probably wouldn't have liked you touching her. 😁
