The Canon 1D series are perfect sports cameras. BnH has several used and the newest release available.

The 1D mk4 has a crop sensor 10 fps

Yes the 1D series is the FF for sports - but $$$$$

The APS-C (crop sensor) for sports is the 7DII - but due for a replacement with new tech.
Since that 7DIII or whatever it will be hasn't come out or been announced the closest thing would seem to be the 90D if you want the newest sensor etc. But it doesn't have the dual processors of the 7DII (2nd processor is dedicated to the AF which is what makes the AF system so good for action).

I don't do sports but I do birds, butterflies and planes and use a 5DIV when I can get close and my 7DII when I can't or don't know if I will be close or far. I use it with a 100-400L mk2-often with a 1.4x for handheld work. The 7DII and the 90D will give you the aov of a 320 mm which should be enough for basketball and soccer since humans are a bit bigger than my little birds.

So get the 7DII if the AF, all of it's options etc is the most important and you can fill the frame so you don't have to crop the 20 MP much and won't be working in very dim light.
Get the 90D if you can get by without the sophisticated AF and speed of the 2nd processor and want the newer tech of the 32 MP sensor. The pluses of the 90D pretty much equal the better AF of the 7DII even without the dual processors. And that 32 MP sensor allows a lot of cropping and still retain details.

I currently use a 5DIV, 7DII and 80D (on a tripod with a 150-600 Tamron G2).

Well, even though I use the 7DII I guess if I was buying a camera right now I would go for the 90D

You are welcome.

I use my FF - 6D first and now a 5DIV for low light, close in, wide angle work and macro photography.
I use my 7DII for the reach and AF system - birds etc. with a pistol grip on the 100-400L lens for walking around.
I use my 80D for working off my tripod out the door for birds and butterflies on my plants in the back yard.

If I didn't already have my 7DII* and an 80D I might to tempted to get a 90D until the 7DIII or its' full fledged replacement comes out.

*Actually my second one, I traded my first one for the 80D to get more f/8 capable AF points but missed the AF options and speed of the second processor so I bought a lightly used one from someone whose family members didn't want to learn the 7DII - it is more complicated with many more options than anything except the 5D and 1D series.

I understand, I am 74, married late, so no Grandkids. Our oldest is a bachelor, then a 17 year gap to number two who is special needs and the baby, two years younger, Jasmine is a second year medical student who just turned 26 and says don't count on any grandkids from her as she is going for surgery which takes about 8-10 years.
Long ago my first year teaching for Los Angeles School District the 74-75 school year I took over the Photography classes when the photo teacher became an Administrator as I was the only faculty member who had put down I knew enough to teach the subject on my application. So no history for me that year - 5 classes of Basic Photography. The Principal renamed the class "The History and Practice of Photography" so I could legally teach it with a History/Geography Credential.
Film of course. I had a couple of students (one varsity soccer player) who shot B&W of every major game of all sports outdoor in daylight, did 8x10 prints and sold them to members of our team and all teams they played. I got them their supplies wholesale from a Hollywood supply house and they paid 10% extra which bought film and paper for the kids who couldn't afford their own.

Those boys got very good at sidelines sports photography.

If you cant get the photos you want with a 6DmkII,
$100,000 worth of camera won't work for you either.

If there's a problem here, it's the "photographer", sure as heck not the camera.

Shakes head in disbelief.

A world famous Photographer went to a dinner party.
When he arrived the hostess greeted him and said;
"I've seen your photos, they are wonderful, you must have an excellent camera.

As he was leaving he said to the hostess; "The food was wonderful, you must have
an excellent fry-pan."

What ever you decide - you need a long and fast burst rate - has to be the way to go.

Really?!? Did you even read his post? You were so quick to accuse the OP of not having skills as a photographer The OP is looking for a camera better suited to sports. The 6DII is a great camera but does not have a high burst rate and is not typically recommended for sports. Several cameras mentioned are better for fast action and sports. Perhaps you should take the time to read a post all the way through before making absurd comments.

The 90D or 5D4 would work depending on how much you want to spend. The 90D being a crop sensor will give you a little more reach because of the crop which might be an advantage with the lenses you have...

My friend did excellent photos of HS soccer, even night games, with a 70D and 70-200 2.8. The 80D and 90D would even be better. No need for FF.
