Arizona Strip: On the way to, by way of Mt. Trumbull, Tuweep and Toroweep. The final destination being Toroweep.
There are three ways to get to Toroweep. South from St. George, Colorado City or Fredonia. They are all on dirt road for 50 to 80 miles, doable by car except for the last three mile where a high clearance vehicle is required. Not 4 wheel drive but high clearance. It is a good 8 hr trip even though the distance is short. Enjoy the show.
Photo #1 Photo of the Mt Trumbull one room school house that served the 75 homestead that were on the Strip. It was burned down but the homesteaders got together and restored it for us. Last full time resident to leave, left in the 1980's.
Photo #2 Has seen better days but a good reminder.
Photo #3 Not all was book "larning" but sometimes we should feel lucky for what we have.
Photo #5 Timbers on Mt. Trumbull tall and straight. There was not any wood in St. George so they had to get it from Mt Trumbull, 80 miles away by wagon and team of horse. At least 10 days. Hardy people.
Photo #6 Facilities provided but seem precarious as the area.
Photo #7 Finally arrived. Rugged country that not many get to visit. It is part of the Grand Canyon and from the overlook to the bottom is 3000 feet straight down. Looking North.
Photo #8 Looking south.
Photo # 9 Another view my favorite
Photo #10 One the way home a birds eye view of the area where the 75 homes existed. Many still remain and are in private hands.
