Here’s a good article that covers training given to Navy Seals.
I was given similar instruction when I was in the Army and was being trained in shooting a rifle at long distance targets.
A blurry photo is not what anyone wants and sometimes being able to relax is all you need.

Instant bookmarked post! I learned a similar but not as controlled method not long ago. Until I started breathing from my “belt buckle,” shallow breathing made controlling long range shooting a real crap shoot. And that’s more than a simple double entendre. Thanks for sharing!

Anything, breathing or meditation, that increases mindfulness of the moment is good for creativity. Good to see that Navy Seals do it.

Did anybody notice that the Seal holding the camera at the top of the article has his right hand under the lens ??? with his left hand. How's he going to release the shutter without switching his grip? That alone would stop me from reading the whole article. If you can't use a "correct" grip on the camera, the rest means nothing.

Check the photo again, it’s been reversed.....

He’s Airborne according to the patch on his uniform, that’s reversed too

He probably saw the patch and read "Bosnia?"

I stand corrected. Sounds like something the Army might do.

The Army doesn't have SEALs... only the Navy. The man in the photo is not a Navy SEAL. He is wearing the patch of a Army Green Beret, aka Special Forces.

The VA teaches this for PTSD/Mindfulness. Breath in and exhaust from the naval.

I was taught the same method by Master Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, White Feather. He even signed a copy of his book for for me I still use the same breathing technique for photography As well as shooting.Oorah

Yes I saw that as well but closer examination makes me wonder if the photo isn't a mirror image. Why???? Maybe some one who knows the language can provide comments.

Perhaps the shot is from a film negative? It is much easier to reverse a physical negative than a digital file.
