I am looking to buy this A6400 from a friend ........Does any one know how you can turn on the LCD monitor MANUALLY - like only when you want it on - NOT the default "auto" setting where it is on all the time when your eye is away from the viewfinder ??? -OR - OFF ALL the time....... MANY thanks ......Larry

In my several different Sony models including 6000 and 6500, all offer the same three-way control setting:
Monitor Only
EVF Only (eye sensor)
Auto Switching (eye sensor)

There is no “everything off” option.

These are all by-menu-only options, so an “everything off” condition would be pretty damn tricky to cancel.

On my A6500 I have a button programmed to toggle between the LCD and viewfinder.
I suspect that a button on the A6400 could be programmed the same way.

Obviously I want the finder on - and the monitor on - only when I turn it on ......

I am a Sony A77II and A99 user......and the 6400 seems very foreign !

Incidently, I am proposing to use the 6400 with a Metabones - which is part of the package - with my Canon lenses - and it , so far, SEEMS to be useable in that regard.

I use my legacy Nikkor 50/1.8 (no AF) with Metabones dumb adapter for Sony E. Works fine. Ditto for some Nikon longer lenses. But did not try Canon b.c. I don't have Canon lenses. My "guess" is it will work OK but AF performance will not equal Canon lens on Canon body nor Sony lens on Sony body.

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

The guy selling this also has the Sigma MC11 and HE says, they both work equally WELL - WELL enough for me ? - We will see ....I do have CANON lenses. - optically, I deem them better than any of Sony's - the BIG question is AF

I've got an a9ii, so similar generation. I keep the rear display turned off (it's one of the toggle options). When I put the camera to my eye the EVF turns on and it's all good. If I review an image or bring up a menu the rear display will turn on and show the info and then turn back off (if I'm not looking through the viewfinder, of course).

Sigma rep told me the AF would not function properly when coupled with their MC11.

That can be distracting, but according to Sony, the camera need less battery power for the LCD than it does for the viewfinder.

I bought a Canon 24mm TS-E and a Metabones adapter, not long ago, to use on my Sony aR7 III and a6100; I actually started a thread querying the feasibility of this, and, received many responses.

Just beware that the Sigma MC11 adapter will not accept EF-S lenses while the Metabones adapter will. Both work well on EF lenses.

I have used the MC11 on my a6000 and it works fine. I can't imagine that it would not work with the a6400.

Hard to believe ! - but, still, why have both on at the same time ??

The metabones also has a tripod socket - the MC11 not !
