‘A pretty rare event.’ Hail the size of softballs, larger fall near Wichita Falls
The largest reported hail was 5 and 1/3 inches in Burkburnett, according to the weather service.

Fortunately for me this was well north. Photo from a local news paper.

This is huge, Samantha. I remember a guy getting hit with a hailstorm in Dallas that was big but not nearly that size that killed him. He was going out to put a blanket on his car.

When car shopping at a DFW Texas area Toyota dealer I saw a couple of cars sitting in the service parking area with no window glass that looked like they had been in a rock fall - there were a couple of places on one where the windshield framing was bent downward three or four inches. I asked one of the salespersons what happened to those cars. Hail damage, he replied. A hailstone large and heavy enough to bend a car’s windshield frame (probably one of the strongest parts of the car body) Has to be a monster!

On the Dallas news last night they showed pictures of the large hailstones in Bowie. One measured 14.5 inches in circumference. The NWS was sending someone out to take pictures of it and document it.
