Any Nautical Maritime Collectors Out There. Need To Know What My Son Bought. Periscope?

My son went to an auction last night and bought home what he thinks is a periscope but we could not find any information on it. Does anyone know if this was used on the Submarine or is some other type of periscope. Thanks.

Based on all the submarine movies I've seen, it could be some kind of telescope, but not necessarily for a sub.

I was going to say for trench warfare but on looking closer it's obviously meant to be bolted down to something. I'm not aware of periscopes in tanks but it could be.
