Rollei 35S Camera with 51BC Flash

Found cleaning out my father in law's house. Appears to be in excellent to mint condition. Both camera and flash appear to be in working order but I have not tested them or taken them to be tested. Both camera and flash have their original manuals. Asking $300 plus shipping. PayPal accepted or check when cleared will ship.

Since the first post I have tested the flash and it works. I have been told that even the private branded flash units are rare specifically if they work. I have lowered the price to $250 and would listen to any reasonable offers.

I remember that camera, had it for sale in the store, smallest 35 at the time, can't remember the price. Never owned one myself though.

I have one, and it's a wonderful little camera. Zone focusing is easy, and the meter and slow shutter speeds are fairly easy to repair. It's a very fun camera in use.

I still have mine. Wonderful camera. Spectacular lens. I shot many wonderful shots with mine. It also spent 8 years in my right leg lower pocket of my flight suit while I was in the AirForce Flying B-52.

A terrific little camera. Bought one for a month long tour of England and Europe when our daughter graduated from High School and only recently sold it to a fellow in California. Kinda wish I would have kept it!!

I bought one when when they were first released. Used it for 3 years living in Europe and traveling and several years after than. Even after I moved up to Minolta, then Nikon SLRs. Excellent results. Only limitation was fixed focal length. Tiny, could take it everywhere. My use and results resulted in four other sales for Rollei that I know of. My skiing friends LOVED it! I still have two of them but have pretty much left film photography for the convenience of digital.

I don’t know what they are worth today. Yes, they are neat little cameras. However, I cannot imagine that they are bringing $300.00. I suggest you look on-line for listings and prices. You could contact KEH, as well. They might be able to help you. I may be wrong and the camera may be worth way more than I believe. Check before selling it, unless you already have interested potential buyers. Good luck!

I did check the ebay listings. Prices ranged from $250 to $350 without the case or manuals and without the flash. I would be open to offers if anyone is interested.

Regardless of the excellent lens, zone focusing turns me off. What good does it do to have the best lens in the world if your photos are soft because of a few inches off on your guess? I went for the XA instead, back in the day.

I think you mean the XF-35? It was a nice little camera in its day - with a Sonnar lens. But the Sonnar sticks out from the body enough that it doesn't really remain "pocketable". The 35 is 97x66x36 mm folded up. The XF is 112x71x32 mm but the lens adds another 26mm sticking out of the front. The weight difference is minimal - 335 to 355 grams. The only operational difference, for mine, is that the XF-35's notoriously finicky shutter does not work on mine. I might buy a parts camera on eBay and try to get it going someday if I have the time.

Personally I don't find zone focusing difficult on a 40mm lens. At sunny 16 you're in focus from about 6 feet to infinity. Even at f8, you've got 12 feet to infinity. I have a small electronic rangefinder (the kind you see at hardware or lumber stores) that I sometimes carry when I'm using a larger camera that lacks a rangefinder - like an Ikonta - but I don't really feel the need for it with my Rollei 35. They're beautiful little jewels - I home this one finds a new home soon.
