Every year in our city they have a charity raffle and give away a new house. Tickets are $100 and there is a limited number sold.
Yesterday they started their ad campaign describing the house. They said that the house has "a secret room behind the fireplace."
Am I the only one to see a problem with this ad?
I don't know anything about secret rooms, but those charity house raffles are somewhat scammy. In the ones I've seen, buried deep in the small-print rules is the stipulation that if a certain amount of $$$ is not raised, the house will not be awarded to anyone. In other words, they keep the money and nobody gets the house that year; come back next year and try again.

Yes...how can it be a secret room, when they have told you where it is!

Same thing I wonder when I see a road sign for "Lost Lake", "Lost River", etc.
I've seen many signs that state "Lots For Sale", but never describe what is exactly on sale.
Ever stop at a yard sale and try to buy the yard? Or a garage sale?

When I lived in California I went to a garage sale that was literality selling a garage, it was one of the build your own units, but had already been built on the property.
Who cares, if you’re getting lots for your money that’s a good deal!
Usually the cost is whatever you pay for the ticket + what you must pay for the back taxes on the property if you win. Usually, the latter dwarfs the former.

I could use a nice sidewalk.
But I have lots of tags.
I was just trying to point out the irony of exposing the "secret room..."

I am guessing that "secret room" means a room with no readily noticeable entrance, in fact, no noticeable presence anyway. It is probably a gimmick that adds value to the house only if potential buyers know of it.
