Rebecca IV

This is from a second session with this model. I used the exact same set-up in the same location EXCEPT this time I used a single strobe shot through a white umbrella above and behind me. Please note the catchlight in her eyes I reviewed all of the photographs that were taken in the first setting and none of them exhibited a single catchlight. It took the addition of this single strobe to produce this effect.

It takes a light source to produce highlights in the eyes!

Re the chopped left knee, I would hugely crop overall to negate that distraction. Also, she looks a little detached as in interaction with photographer/camera. Nice idea though.

Nice exposure. Nice composition, albeit a little close to the right.

Without a light source, there would be nothing to photograph. If by light source, you mean "artificial" light or a reflector, you don't get outside enough.

These Photographs were NOT TAKEN OUT DOORS. They were taken in an area of my solar-room in an area about 10 feet square. The sun was out however the solar room and it's walls were covered with white drafting Mylar and ,if you look at the pictures, this set up gave no direct light on anything in the room. It was ,repetitively, flat even light. NO DIRECT LIGHT TO CREATE CATCHLIGHTS..

To create a catchlight with artificial light, you can start with regular light bulbs first. You can try using a lamp and place it about 45 degrees from your subject. Position the lamp close to your model if you want to create a big catchlight. Or place it far away if you want the specular highlight to look small.

To create a catch light in an indoor location, all you need to do is to make sure there is a visible source of light, which will be reflected in your subject’s eyes.

Position your subject near an open window or door, during daylight, and make sure there is a direct line between the source of light and the subject, without blocking objects like furniture.

Digital Lighting & Rendering - Page 48 - Google Books Resultbooks.google.com › books
Specular highlights are supposed to look like reflections of a light source. ... A point source light is infinitely small and has no area. ... you're guaranteed that the character's eyes will always have highlights when it looks toward the cam- era.

In other words you had a light source know it or not it appears to be head high and just to your right.
