Wow, a 12 foot Pintail tells me you were surfing a gun. Did you do big wave surfing? I’m glad you liked the last photo! Thanks for your comments.

I got a buy on it. Always wanted one never needed one. Tried it a couple of times at outside Steamer Lane. All my friends laughed at me. Big wave rider? Oh no, I was never enough of a waterman for that. No leashes or flotation in the late 50's. My only claim to fame is that I started surfing before the surfing movie Gidget came out.

Looks like great fun working on those photos. #2 caught my eye. I think it really captures the energy and power of both the water and the surfer.

Number two is my favorite also. It’s a must to view and download mode to see all the detail and painter like qualities. I agree with everything you said about it.

With the request to stay at home what's a photographer to do? Pull out old photos and rework them!
These all look best in download mode.

Have fun Brent, but I prefer your original work.

The composition of #3 greatly appeals to me, and #5 is an intriguing pov. I'm curious about your decision to leave in the bit of pier (?) in #5. Can you talk about that choice, Brent?

Thanks for posting this fun and varied series.

Wyeth and Hopper are two of my favorite artists too! I also love Andrew's father's work (N.C. Wyeth).
Thanks so much for all the kind things you have said about the series. You are right about these photos being different than the common stuff.

Curmudgeon, I never was a big wave surfer either. If you started surfing before the movie Gidget, then you have really seen the sport change. Good to know.

Linda, thanks for your nice words about the fun and varied series. The reason why I left the pilings in the photo was because the surfers were having a race around the pier when I took the photo. The pier seemed to be important to me since I was there and that was the object that the surfers were paddling around. It kind of grounded the image and helped the story.

I sometimes find it difficult to explain WHY I like a photo. Well, in this case I am drawn to # 4 and 7. 7 is easy. Love the guy holding the dog and your editing. #4 is harder to explain why. In art I always enjoyed the color blocking of Mondrian and great architectural lines. Combined with the fluidity of water which I truly love being in and around, is a real treat. Just give me a Frank Loyd Wright home by the sea. Ahhh, such a dreamer!
Time for bed!!!

Linda, there is no reason why you have to justify your choices of what images you like or dislike. Your personal opinion is your own and no one can take that away from you. I took another photo of the dog and owner and they were riding tandem on the board. Would you like to see it? Thanks for the very kind words, you dreamer!

Sure I would enjoy seeing the dog on the board. Always fun to watch those videos! Sometimes I do try to figure out why a shot appeals to me (Linda of Maine's fault ) but now the pressure is off Thanks Brent.

I always enjoy your artistry, Brent, probably because for some reason I've always loved surfing imagery. This despite living in the Central Valley and only getting to the coast once or twice a year.

I was just thinking about the use of textures the other day. Graphic artists use them all the time to add to their imagery. What I was wondering is how does one decide what kind of texture to apply. If I had to pick I'd pick 4 and 5. It's the textures.
