... in composition it appears much like the "ackee" (Blighia sapida) - that is, it is the same color, has similar seeds and arils. However the ackee appears much like a smallish red, bell pepper and grows in clusters on trees. Pictured is something else- very "bean" like but, as I said very similar. Given the ackee is both the national fruit of Jamaica and toxic, my curiosity of its flavor- and this things- is satisfied by looking...

ain't no ackee- but surely related

Whatever it is, you have captured it in a fine fashion.

It is peculiar, I think, but after finally noticing one bush/tree, now see them with regularity... but still think them peculiar...
Do appreciate you taking a look, Stan, THANKS!!

Can you supply more details? Tree, bush, image of leaves and State/region where found? With this information I can do further research in my texts.

Growing wild at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - I'll get a shot of the entire bush/tree/leaves/details and provide - may as well get one or two of the ackee, also... Sorry, should have thought of that beforehand but, was fascinated by the pods..

Jamaica caper (Capparis cynophallophora) native to Florida and possibly cuba. Unopen flower resembles a caper

First is the tree/bush in question- note the ripe pods and also green ones
Second is a shot of the leaves - about two inches long... the leaves, I mean
Third- blossom?
4. Ackee fruit - as comparison
5. Mature ackee fruit
6. Elderly akcee fruit
7. Ackee tree
Obviously different tree shape- and equally obvious is the differing fruit shape... but, a red pod, white avril, and shiny black "seed" are very similar...
