I've been photographing the repair of our basement for the last week. I would like to put it all together in some kind of automated slide show. I might give it an audio narration, or I might just use text to describe the various steps. Should I adapt some video editing program to do it, or is there something simpler dedicated to still photographs? Any recommendations? Thanks.
I'm a HUGE fan of using video editing software for slide shows. I've used iMovie on a Mac for the last 20 years. It does a great job with slide shows, because you can import just about ANY image file into the timeline and title it, transition it, crop it, zoom it, pan it... plus you can add titles, video, audio, and make minor color and brightness adjustments. You can synchronize the sound with the "slide" changes, too.
Premiere Elements on the Windows platform is a similar choice. A Mac version is available, but iMovie and Final Cut Pro X are integrated with Mac hardware, so faster and smoother.
For more power and advanced features, try Final Cut Pro X (Mac only) or Premiere Pro (Windows and Mac, but again, there are better choices on the Mac).
Inevitably, some folks here will recommend the outdated, unsupported, defunct Windows only program ProShow, ProShow Gold, or ProShow Web. Unfortunately, Photodex, the maker of those programs, is out of business.
Mac or Windows, I recommend the public domain "donation ware" program, VLC Media Player, for playback.
