In my birding pursuit, initially I came across a bird that kept moving and did not present a good photo op. On the other side of the lake inlet, however, I came across one that seemed oblivious to my presence.

Any idea what the name of this bright fellow is?

Yellow-headed blackbird (no, not kidding ). I like your environmental portrait, #1, very much!

Their "song" is distinctive: like a goose being strangled. Around here they seem to compete with redwing blackbirds for nesting sites, as well as food. I should probably Google that for accuracy.

Nice series, Mike. I have never seen one of those on any of my travels.

Thanks, Linda. The first shot is what I would ordinarily consider "birding." The others were for identification, although the bold bird just invited photos.

Thanks, I just downloaded the Cornell app and have yet to figure out how to use it.

Having never heard a goose being strangled, I will have to trust you on that.
