Wonderful memories and images of ladies who probably had the most influence on each of our lives. My Mother survived three surgery’s to remove a mass from her brain that kept coming back, and then endured some 20 years after a stroke. She was always cheerful, however, and never complained that I heard or that Dad ever mentioned. Memory was sharp to the end as well. She used a walker after the stroke, and the left side of her face sagged from paralysis, so her smile was always a little crooked, but she almost always had one. I found a couple of old scanned photos that shows not only my Mom, but her Mom, and Dad’s Mom also. Probably taken with the old Brownie so aren’t the best images, but they are flooded with memories!

I was probably 13 or 14 here.

You look very happy in all these photos! I think your sense of humor has endured very well, Larry! Nice family, too!

Bonnie, your Mom is my kind of woman!!!! & the kind of woman I have! I'm her 2nd & the 3rd will think the same!!! She is 83 & I'm 81. Also my Mom was your kind of Mom!!!

I should have put my photo on this list. Each Mom's Day I stand up in church when asked for Mom's to stand & be 'honored'. Another man does the same because we were both 'Mother's & Dad's'. Being a 'Mom & Dad' at the same time is truly a chore. My wife was a 'Dad & Mom' at the same time & also stands up as a 'Dad' on Father's Day.

Being a good Mom is worthy! All Mom's are not.

Sorry for the sour note, but I do hope it gives greater emphasis on good Mother's & good 'Mom's'.

p.10 I'd be able to pick you out easily, Larry! Your mom certainly was a survivor!

You are so correct. To have a good, honest, loving Mom and/or Dad has become a rarity, it seems. A Mom is a power influence - for the good, and unfortunately sometimes for worse. Not a sour note; unfortunate reality

I wanted to give a shout out to someone i consider a special Mom - our daughter, Sarah. Life and learning have not come easy for her. Her wonderful husband works long hours 5 1/2 to 6 days/week and she often has total care of the boys (now 15 and 11). Both have been taught manners, participate in chores, are respectful of others and love each other. The younger was born with Fragile X - a genetic disorder affecting cognition and development. He also had a stroke before birth and has little use of right arm, wears leg braces, and can't do things like dress or toilet himself. She is constantly working as their Mom - piles of laundry (the oldest helps), meals, entertaining them, encouraging friends and so much more. We are blessed to live close enough to help and provide some respite for them. Sarah has become one fantastic mother.

Our Wedding Day 50 years ago next month. My mother made my gown and her dress. She hated corsages, so, in keeping with the flower themes, she made a band of fresh daisies to go around the crown of her hat. My sweet mother in law ( also a nurse who graduated decades earlier from the same school from which I graduated) was the best mother in law ever. My mother (Minnie) died in her mid 60's and Millie never tried to take her place, but she never failed to show love to me and thank me for taking good care of her son. My father in law (George) was a remarkable man and he treated Millie like a queen (my husband had an excellent role model). Millie and George moved to NH on retirement and we created many memories together. It was our privilege to have Millie live with us full time for 5 years (and winters before that). We were able, with Hospice help, to keep Millie with us until she passed in early June 2010. I was still working full time and caring for her with Jim's help. (I still hear from her hospice nurse). She rarely complained, had a fun sense of humor, and was forever thanking us - I miss both my Moms. I am so glad we could care for her till the very end of this life. It was hard, but I don't regret a minute of it.
