3rd Party Batteries for D500

Hello. Before someone tells me to search for prior posts, I did. But, did not find any relevant posts. BTW, the search feature is not very robust.
Now on to the question. I recall prior threads discussing 3rd party batteries for Nikon. The hardliners stating “no, no never, you’re clearly foolish to even think about it!” But other quieter voices reported their experiences, good and bad.
It would be great if any of the quieter voices would share their experiences.

PS. If there were fewer hoggers that seem to subscribe only to pounce upon those asking questions, posts would not require a preface to discourage the typical flack one receives in response to a sincerely phrased question.

I'm fortunate enough to have a spare nikon batter from my D7000. I wouldn't be afraid of 3rd but. I wouldn't buy the cheapest one either.

You answered your own question, people stated both good and bad experiences with 3rd party batteries. So why take a chance on your D500 just to save a few bucks?

My husband & I have been using Wasabi batteries and chargers for several years with NO issues at all. I currently shoot with a D7200 and a D500. I have ever had only battery-related problems. The first was the failure of a Sony OEM battery in my old Sony P&S. The second problem was the failure of, of all things, a Nikon OEM battery charger for my Nikons.

It sounds like you've already made up your mind and just want somebody to tell you what you want to hear.
My feeling is if I spend a lot of money on a camera, I'm not going to go cheap on batteries. But that's just me.

I bought my D810 at a time that Nikon EN-EL15 batteries were not available locally, so I bought one of the ProMaster "equivalents" that my camera store was selling as an alternative. While it powered the camera just fine, it would never charge to 100%, and its exposure counter would not (and still will not)reset after recharging. It also self-discharges much more quickly than my Nikon batteries.
It was only $10 less than an authentic battery. While it continues to provide power, I do not believe that the tiny savings is worth the loss of functionality.
I now have multiple bodies that use that same battery type, including a couple of D500s. Only in an extreme emergency would I buy a non-Nikon battery again.

The EN-EL15 batteries I use in my D7200 and D500 are made by at least 3 different companies. They are BM, Sterling Tek (STK) and the third are badged Nikon even though Nikon does not actually manufacture them. All three use cells made in Japan and are assembled in China. Yes, even the "Nikon" batteries. I personally have not noticed any difference in performance between the three different manufacturers batteries but then I'm not a nit picker like some folks can be. I simply put a charged battery into the camera and when it's running low, I replace it with another charged battery.

Batteries are the cheapest accessory you can buy for your camera. Your D500 was not inexpensive.
In general, 3rd party batteries deliver a little less images per charge than OME batteries, generally 3rd party batteries fail at a greater rate than OME batteries, in general, third party batteries age more quickly than OME batteries.
Answer this question and you will know what to do, "if the 3rd party battery were the same price as the OME one, which one would you buy?" OK?

Searching for prior posts is a waste of time. Either the title doesn't match the topic, or the info is old and out of date.

I use BM and PowerXtra for my Nikons, (D500, Z7), and PowerXtra and Kastar in my Panasonic G9. The only battery I’ve had a problem with is a Nikon battery that failed.

I have a D500 and two Nikon batteries plus one Watson Battery that came with it as part of the package. The Watson battery works fine but it runs out of juice faster than the Nikon ones. I had a similar set up with my D7100. The Watson battery also ran out of juice faster than the Nikons and it was the first battery to fail. Only a sample of two so take it for what it's worth.

Myself for a D500, I would stick with Nikon branded. When my Nikon battery died for my D3, I decided to go with DTSE brand battery as Nikon has not manufactured a battery for this camera in a long time and any battery still for sale has probably been on the shelf for a decade. No problem with the off brand.
