I have a PC with a 8 yr. old processor (i7 3770)and motherboard, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD and two internal data sata drives. It runs Lightroom & PS CC just fine. It might be faster, but I see no reason to get a new one. Your configuration should be just fine. You might consider upgrading to 32 or 64 GB of RAM, providing the motherboard supports that. I would also recommend Windows 10 Pro. Don't forget to have a backup system for you OS drive. I use Acronis.

Good luck and enjoy the new PC

I went with a Dell XPS desktop a few years ago from BestBuy. I mention simply because they seem to be a few hundred dollars less than this model at the BB site. Make sure you have a quality monitor too.

This would be the new computer....my old ASUS (6 years old) was cooked via a power surge. Repair would cost more than the unit did when new.
My insurance company is giving me $550 towards a new computer.

I'm in the market for a new computer also. You shouldn't need an overpriced "Gamer" machine. As long as you have a recent processor and OpenGL 3.3 capability I think the most important element is the RAM. I'm looking for at least 24GB up to 32GB. I've been looking at some models with i7 processors that run around $500 - $600. An SSD would be nice but I'd only put the operating system on it. That's just my thinking. BTW, my 10+ year old i3 PC w/ 5 GB Ram still runs LR and PS but slows down sometimes with heavy editing.

My 2005 custom built PC had the same experience in 2012 - power surge during Sandy that fried the motherboard and memory. I had it rebuilt by a local computer shop and it is still doing just fine. I have upgraded a few times - more RAM, new internal hard drives, new dedicated 2GB GPU. You might look into a local shop in Brooklyn that has a good reputation.

It looks like a good choice. Back in late 2011 I got a high end iBuyPower gamer on the theory that if it coud do 3D games or real time on line games it could handle still and video editing.
Last year the mother board developed a glitch and I bought parts and had my local tech shop gut my full tower case and replace the major things = MB, CPU, new SSD "C" drive, increased memory, video card, better cooler, power pack etc.
I followed the first build in this article from PhotographyLife (early 2019 article-this is a link to the updated article). It cost me $1500 for the parts and $200 for the tech to assemble it and transfer some of my faster parts to our son's computer he plays train simulators on. (Special needs, 28 but mentality of a 5 year old and loves trains)

I bought a refurbished Dell computer, no monitor for about $240.00. It is the fastest computer I ever owned.
1TB hard drive and 16GB ram. Model: OptiPlex 7010 desktop. There are different configurations available.

Bought mine on ebay.

I owned a computer store and built them from scratch for years. In fact, I put together a new system for myself this past week. I researched what Adobe uses(meaning codes their programs currently) in a processor and ram before buying my new one.

I ended up with an Intel I-7 3.66 GHZ processor with 16 GB of ram. I know many will say 32 but from what I could research unless you're using 10 layers or more, Adobe won't take advantage of the extra ram. I HIGHLY recommend an ASUS motherboard. Asus will sell complete units like Dell does.

Right now, some parts and even computers are tough to get because China had stopped production for weeks. Mid to end of May should see most things like power supplies back in stock. If you're scared then don't try it, but building one yourself can save hundreds of dollars and you get exactly what you want. I built one for a shade under $1500 and the closest I could find in a built unit was $2300. You might even have a local person who still builds units.

If you don't want to take the risk and want to go with a prebuilt computer, I would still look at Asus instead of Dell. I used Dell once and only once when I didn't have time to build a computer I needed fast for my office. Since then, I've gone back to building my own. I always use Asus motherboards and Intel processors and have never had an issue.

Oh and one tip to consider when looking at a new computer. Get an M.2 hard drive (Samsung) at maybe 500 MG and get a second hard drive at 1 or 2 T as the data drive. Put the operating system and any programs on the M2 drive and put your photos or any data on the secondary drive. You can get a 2T Seagate drive for $50 and you don't need speed for a data drive. You do need the speed on the drive where you store your applications. That's a tip that can save you a hundred bucks or more. You don't need an SSD drive as your data drive though it would be faster. Get a regular sata drive as your data drive and put the money into a good M.2 drive as your application hard drive. Also, for Photoshop, you really don't need an I-9 processor right now. Adobe really wont use much of the processing power. Save some money with the I-7, but get a newer generation.

I do fine MicroCenter's house brand PowerSpec desktop computer. I don't do video editing or high-end video. I'm a hobbyist and not a pro photographer so I have all the computational power I need. Previously I tried using a MicroSoft Surface tablet to run my big monitor and all my peripheral devices. I burned out the $200 interface they sold me in order to do this. MicroSoft would not replace it. Best Buy sold me a load of BS when they said I could use it to replace my previous desktop. The Surface is a fine laptop, but it is not a desktop substitute.

The only problem might be the video and monitor. Gaming computers use a refresh rate and monitor that is not conducive to photo editing. So check that out closely.
