I'm using my spare time during lockdown to catalogue my collection of old negatives and other images. Lots of folk are feeling a bit fed-up because they can't hold the VE Day celebrations that they had planned, and some are having a 'distanced' form of street party.
By pure coincidence, on the eve of VE Day I opened the next box of plate glass negatives for cataloguing and found this image, which will need little description, so I thought I would post it here to say a big 'thank you' from the UK to all those overseas friends who helped us out in our time of need. The image was taken around 9 months before I was born - quite significant for me!

I'd like to add my thanks - so glad that plane made it through to the end of the war.

My thanks to all who served. A great photo of a heroic crew and plane. It definitely is a miracle the plane made it to the end of WWII. What a wonderful collection you must have. Mahalo for sharing.

Nothing like the WWII soldiers and airmen that served. The bombers played such a key role in winning the war. Very nice image for sure.

It's too bad that children today do not learn anything about this period of our history. The kids I know who are graduating high school have NO knowledge of that war. I'm not sure what they do know, but I learned what they don't know! That was a pivotal period of history and created a LOT of heroes.

I agree. Seems unpleasant things get left out of the school curriculum anymore, or there is just a brief mention made. Not teaching about such important events in our history doesn’t make the fact that they occurred go away. Yup, that war made a lot of heroes, for sure. My dad was one of them, but he never talked about it. As a Vietnam vet, I understand.
