The Air National Guard flew a KC-135R over our hospitals in North Alabama this morning to honor the medical personnel. The photos were taken when the aircraft flew over the Huntsville Hospital. I used my D810 with the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens plus a B+W CPF handheld. The shutter speed was 1/2000s and bracketed shots of 0, -0.7, +0.7. I was very pleased that best exposure was the nominal. I set the camera for continuous dynamic 3D-tracking focusing and that worked great. This was the first really good test of the lens since I got it back from Tamron service. The KC-135R was visible for under 30 seconds.
The receding photograph of the aircraft suffered a yukky sky that was a solid high overcast that was a bit yellow. Not an enjoyable photograph. So I decided to try the sky replacement feature in Luminar 4. The second photograph shows the results.
A lot of people came out to view the flyover and I think it help many feel better after having to stay at home so long. Many thanks to the 17th Air Refueling Wing located in Birmingham, Alabama.
Note the fuel boom is extended. That's a tanker's way of saluting folks on the ground. They're just a bit too large to wiggle the wings like smaller aircraft do.

Nice shots! My son was an AC on the 135R - cool airplane. He's still in the reserves, but these days he flys a B737 for a commercial cargo hauler.

Thanks Basil and for your service in the USAF too. Also, thanks to you son. F-16s love to see this big boy so they can take a drink!
