Ok, so I came across something today about a p******c just over 50 years ago. What p******c could that be you say? The Hong Kong Flu p******c of 1968-69.

Ok so I was just a wee'un back then (3rd or 4th grade) and a number of you are Vietnam vets or similarly aged. What are your recollections of this event?

Were people masked?
Did businesses close down?
Did schools close down during the school year?

I looked it up;
Total population in US -1968 was 200.7 million.
Total dead from Hong Kong flu in US 38,000.

That is approximately 0.019% of the country or a death rate of 18.9/100k (1968)

Today with C***d19 we have;
Total population - 331,002,651
Current total dead from C****-** is 74431

That is approximately 0.022% of the country or a death rate of 22.1/100k (2020)

1968 - No lockdowns, no shuttered businesses, closed borders?, no masks.
2020 - lockdown everywhere, all non-essential businesses closed, borders closed, masks required.

I'm looking for comments from those old enough to know what was going on. I was there but as an 8 year old my priority was learning to ride a bicycle and playing baseball.

It just seems to me that either we were unbelievably stupid in 1968 or unbelievably stupid today. It's possible both are true I suppose.

The Hong Kong flu was estimated to k**led 100,000.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/p******c-resources/1968-p******c.html

But the first post tells the story doesn’t it.
Even with mask, lockdowns we are at 78,000 dead and still counting after only 4 months ( compared to HK flu of 100,000 dead in over 12 months)
Imagine what c***d stats would be without the lock down and the modern medicine .

That’s for posting. It proves that lock down was needed and working.

Imagine if governors didn't execute seniors by sending sick patients to live with them.

Something tells me that in 1968 we were.....

a) smarter back then. certainly had more common sense.
b) made of tougher stuff.

Trump doesn't seem to agree with you, based on his stance on the 5 youths arrested and sentenced on the rape in Central park. Do you stand by your statement, or do you support Trump?

What jurisdiction was Trump presiding in during that case?

I don’t recall him ever being a barrister?

You wouldn’t make that up would you Tom?

what youths were these thom? what rape in central park. From the info and tone of your post I can assume this was the only time that someone has been raped there? Oh and where are Trumps statements on this?

If you're willing to bring this up specifically to me then be specific. I'm not pending one second googling this because ......

A) It's you
B) It's you and this is a diversion.
C) it's you and this is a diversion and this has zip to do with the OP.
D) but mostly, it's you. Now run along and tell someone new how you served your nation with a mop.
