Over the years, I have been privledged to participate in banding of wild Peregrine Falcons chicks in Minnesota, and getting to document the process with photos. For the record, I have 10's of thousands of these images.
These are some of my best images. Peregrines can dive to speeds approaching or over 200 mph. Catching them with a camera at that speed are rare, but there are some. Not by me.

Greetings, Yeah, I have seen some more recent articles that are quoting over 200 mph. Most people unless into Peregrines find it unbelievable. Simple amazing when you think about it.

Oh - I bet she was pissed. More smart to wear the hard hat for her than for the repel.

I would say whoever climbed up to take a photo with the chicks put himself and the birds at risk, not a good idea.

In truth, he rapels down from the top of the wall. He has a specially designed soft padded box . He puts the chicks, 1 each in separate pockets, and the box is brought up to the top of the cliff where the chicks are banded. There has not been any chicks injured or lost in many years of use.

I often wondered about that, if a person has to handle the chicks without wearing gloves, wouldn't the mother abandon the nest because of human scent?

I'm not a bird or Peregrine expert. That said, I think "Mother Peregrine" just want her chicks back, she has a lot of time and effort invested in these little chicks. The time involved by the banding team is surprisingly short, and everyone is reunited.
