Fantastic images. It appears to be a Great Horned Owl. Would this be correct? They blend into the trees so very well that sometimes it is almost impossible to see them. You caught them perfectly.

I am not sure what kind of owl it is... I do know it is pretty big... It was breezy out and the branches covered her most of the time... I was lucky to get the shots i did before she took off... thanks for the nice compliment

Thank you for the clarification. We had an osprey nest in our front yard, where the great horned owls would kick the osprey's out, have their babies, then leave the nest for the ospreys to return. The nest had been there almost twenty years, when my neighbour decided that the wanted to put a plastic perch in my tree. When I got home and saw the nest gone, replaced by this bright green plastic perch. I was sick. I had the plastic perch removed immediately. Not one bird has ever returned.

The great horned owls are so large. The babies that were raised in our front yard were so cute. I miss those owls.

Not yet. We have planted mangroves along the property at the river's edge. We are hoping that once the mangroves take hold and grow, we will be able to attract fish for the ospreys and great horned owls. The good news is that once the mangroves are in, it is against Florida law to remove the mangroves. Cross your fingers.
