this is not good. whilepeopleare busy bashing microsoft, a worse giant comes along.
That doesn't seem to bode well.
Lets hope they let the Nik team do what they do best with their products.
It may take some time, but excellent post-photo plugins will be reduced to mediocrity as Google tries to morph it into Flickr, or create some all-in-one-good-as-none thing from the Nik line.
The times are a changn'.
Watch carefully what Microsoft acquires, and Google acquires. They are both headed to the "clouds". Before long most applications will be housed in the "Cloud", and the only access you will have is an online subscription to one of the Clouds. All your creative files will be housed in the Cloud, as well.

What does this tell you about the financial status of Nikon as they were the parent of NIK Software?
I attended a Google+/Scott Kelby conference in San Francisco in May and one of Google's top photo gurus hinted that one project they are working on is to vastly improve Picasa. Implication was that it might compete with PS. The NIK acquisition might be a first step.
sounds like bad news to me. I like and use NIK software.
NIK is good, however their prices are out of site and their "discounts" stink. That is probably why they are hurting. Topaz does great for a lot less.

This also includes Capture NX2. Probably no NX3. Most likely we will find Color Control Points powered by U Point Technology in Picassa. I have a bad feeling that nothing good is going to come of this.
People have no idea what a great program NX2 is. It is not Photoshop, but when it comes to bringing out the color of a photo, there is nothing better. I read all the time questions about how to make the sky pop or make the grass really green, skin softening, eyes & teeth white, etc... and I am thinking to myself, no big deal. Plop a control point on the area in question and use the sliders to get what you want! This will be an interesting ride!
