How do you get faces without racoon eyes on a bright sunny day without fill flash which I know you can't really do with sports.. Good shots!

I use the shadows/highlights slider in Photoshop to enhance the shadows.

I take pictures for our local newspaper and may try to do some sports photos. Do you use manual or auto focus and where do you stand to get such great shots. Thanks for being willing to share information. Hopefully local sports will start up before the summer is over.

I shoot with a Nikon D500 and D4. Shooting techniques are different for soccer, football, baseball, softball, basketball, etc. For instance for football day games I use a 200-500 5.6 vr on one camera and 70-200 2.8 on the other camera. I always use for focus group focus, auto. Let the action come to you, be ahead of the play and be patient. Try to fill the frame and do not rely on cropping to much.
